Like Phoenix arising from the ashes yet again, the Portland polling outfit Pan Atlantic SMS was back this week with another poll. And once again the poll's results were reported by most of the Maine media without any reference to the polling firm's history.

Pan Atlantic SMS is operated by Patrick and Virginia Murphy, a very politically-connected Portland couple. (She was once chairman of the Maine Democratic Party) and is one of the perennials on the Maine polling scene. However, the firm has come up a big loser twice in the past year.

Americans' distrust of the media has reached an all-time high with perception of liberal bias far more prevalent than that of conservative bias.

The Gallup organization, which annually conducts a poll that measures the public's feeling about the media, reports that this is the fourth year in a row in which a large majority of Americans say they have little or no trust in the media "to report news fully, accurately and fairly."
