Inhofe vows to put brakes on Gore’s ‘Live Earth’ concert at the Capitol

Fresh from his face-to-face tussle with former Vice President Al Gore, Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) is vowing to stall Gore’s hotly anticipated Capitol concert to draw attention to global warming.

Inhofe’s belief that climate change is “the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people” is common knowledge in the capitol, and environmental groups cheered the new prospects for carbon-capping legislation when he ceded the Environment and Public Works Committee gavel this session.

Gore Runs Into Climate Concert Blockage

Plans by environment crusader Al Gore for a climate change rock concert at the U.S. Capitol are running into some Republican opposition.

An alternative to use the Capitol's west lawn - proposed by Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (news, bio, voting record) of Nevada and Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe (news, bio, voting record) of Maine - now is on hold in the U.S. Senate.

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Exxon Mobil Corp. never set out to become "public enemy No. 1" in the global climate-change debate, Chairman and Chief Executive Rex W. Tillerson said Wednesday in response to complaints at the company's annual meeting in Dallas.

"Why do people feel so threatened about having a debate?" asked Tillerson, who maintained that while global warming has been documented, much has to be decided on the best course of action. "We don't fund junk science."

ExxonMobil shareholders rebuff concerns on climate change

ExxonMobil shareholders voted strongly against several measures dissident investors proposed to reform the [oil company’s] climate policies.

US Senators Rockefeller and Snowe, a Democrat and a Republican respectively, have criticized ExxonMobil for its "climate-change denial" and support of "climate-change skeptics."

"Why that's been put out there to disparage us is beyond me. It's not true. This is an issue for the next 10, 20 years we're going to continue to learn about," Tillerson said.

Good environmental policy relies on sound science. Some science surrounding climate change is clear. Concentration of greenhouse gases, particularly CO2, has increased significantly since the Industrial Revolution due to human activity. Earth’s surface temperature is warming at least partly due to that increased concentration.

Other aspects of the science are more ambiguous.

Most serious students of climate change believe the likelihood of adverse climate change warrants action. What action? Economic analysis should guide environmental policy.

I just bumped into this thread.

"Disgraceful?" Why? "Predictable," more likely. I would have been surprised if she had NOT become a GW bully.

goes around, comes

goes around, comes around.

"The big question now circulating through the stunned European media, governments and activist organisations is how could the warming stop have happened? Moreover, how do we now explain it to the public?"

"This is pathetic. The observed data and measured trends have stopped showing global warming. So are scientists now claiming that singular events are robust signs? This would be only one step away from astrology!"

The good ex-Senator will be remembered for joining with Jay Rockefeller - the champion of one world government ( which requires the destruction of the United States as we know it) - and lambasting Exxon for supporting the anti warming community.

A single decade of

A single decade of observational TLT data is therefore inadequate for identifying a slowly evolving anthropogenic warming signal. Our results show that temperature records of at least 17 years in length are required for identifying human effects on global-mean tropospheric temperature. http://www.agu.org/pubs/crossref/2011/2011JD016263.shtml
