BAGHDAD - Gunmen in Baghdad snatched 10 Sunni and Shiite tribal sheiks from their cars Sunday as they were heading home to Diyala province after talks with the government on fighting al-Qaida, and at least one was later found shot to death.
This is probably really mean, but from what I've seen, there's at least ten sets of women with a lot less laundry, ironing and starching to do right now.
Tsk,Tsk,Tsk, Naran.
5 years and nearly a trillion bucks, you'd think the diplomats might get their backs watched.
I thought that was the mission of the month.
Baghdad is not secure in over 5 years of our liberation.
Thanks for admitting they were liberated. It is appreciated.
Nor is Portland, apparently, either, Mr. Coose.
And neither would be certain parking lots in Biddeford nor rural routes in Buxton, apparently.
We should demand withdrawal of troops from York County!
*... wonders if there's women frantically ironing headdresses and robes in Biddeford parking lots.... *

In the US we have our own forms of sexist oppression.
Just listen to some rap music. Would you like to be dating some of the folks who treat women that way?
No.
Which, of course, is why I don't.
It's one of those pesky Free Will things.
:D
Thanks for admitting they were liberated. It is appreciated.
I hope no one ever liberates us!!!
Particularly not if Liberation involves large amounts of Extreme Ironing.
:P

I think turbans are wrapped without ironing, but what do I know. But laundry? A people that poops while squatting has got to generate a lot of laundry - socks especially. Liberate them? Hell no - give em toilets and toilet paper. They'll be so happy they'll surrender for real.
Check out the Saudi malefolk, dear Watchdog - those headdresses and elaborate robes and undershirts don't launder and press themselves. The turban material is indeed ironed before being worn, as well.
BTW - a society that poops while squatting has far fewer circulatory problems than a "civilized" one like the US. It all still ends up in a hole; the difference is the manner in which it gets there.
Just an aside.

Iraqi Security Forces rescue sheik hostagesÂÂ
Soldiers with the 9th Iraqi Army Division, led by Maj. Gen. Riyahd, conducted a mission to rescue abducted sheiks Oct. 29.
The mission was conducted to free sheiks from Diyala that were kidnapped in the Shaab area of northern Baghdad the day prior.
This is good news - it ends a major hostage crisis started a day or two ago, and is important because the operation was led by Iraqi forces.
It is also likely that the the locals squaked on the kidnappers, and that could indicate diminishing local support for the terrorists.
Freed sheiks describe kidnapping ordeal

BAGHDAD - It had to be done quickly. Rogue Shiite militiamen were holding hostage a group of Sunni and Shiite tribal sheiks who had joined a revolt against al-Qaida. For the Iraqi government and its U.S. backers, the seven men represented a rare symbol of national unity.
A daring rescue operation secured their freedom.
Hurrah for the sheiks; alas for the Laundry Forces, whose temporary respite from hot irons and the cauldrons of boiling starch will now be ended.

Depending on how big the tribes are that these sheiks represent, this could really backfire more on the insurgents and terrorists, like the reaction to the AlQaeda attacks on the Jordanian weddings in 2005.
On another note, I was told that last week there was not one American or Iraqi civilian death in Anbar province last week and that Ramadi itself has become far more safe. I was surprised at the level of safety that I heard.
