Wouldn't it be a great example if DC said "no" to the pricey inaugural galas, balls, parties, and used the money to pay down the US deficit? What a great way that would have been, to start 2013.

2013 Inauguration: How much will it cost you?
The Washington Times Online

WASHINGTON, January 7, 2013 — Taxpayers are casting a skeptical eye at the upcoming Inauguration on January 21. No wonder they are asking how much it will cost us.

....we were just dangled over the fiscal cliff. Payroll taxes ...jumped up by 2% or $20 a week for a family earning $50,000 a year. The deficit is almost $17 trillion. And the debt ceiling could shut down the government in a few weeks. Who can afford the Inauguration?

Here is a REAL poem :

'Twas the night before elections And all through the town Tempers were flaring Emotions all up and down!
I, in my bathrobe With a cat in my lap Had cut off the TV Tired of political crap. When all of a sudden here arose such a noise I peered out of my window Saw Obama and his boys. They had come for my wallet They wanted my pay To give to the others Who had not worked a day.

Inaugural pastor withdraws over anti-gay remarks

Rachel Zoll / The Associated Press

The evangelical pastor chosen to give the benediction at President Barack Obama's inauguration withdrew from the ceremony ...after remarks he made two decades ago condemning the gay rights movement surfaced.

The Rev. Louie Giglio of Passion City Church in Atlanta... withdrew because it was likely that the "prayer I would offer will be dwarfed by those seeking to make their agenda the focal point of the inauguration."

....snip
.... Presidential Inaugural Committee vetted Giglio. But...they didn't know about that particular sermon. ....
