5/22/07 What I'm Thankful For

Just a few thoughts from the deskdrawer of the mind:

--The crock pot. A twenty dollar implement that turns marginal cuts of meat into the tastiest and most tender of delicacies. And all I have to do is open a can of tomatoes and press a button.

--Apple blossoms. I wish they stuck around for a while. Walking in the woods bordering our fields this time of year is heavenly.

--Newly opened beech leaves. They have an other-worldy color to them, and make the forest glow with the slightest of light.

--Orioles and old grapefruit.

It's good to be thankful.

There are good and bad things around each of us. And we have a choice, we can look around us and notice the good things, and live in a world full of good things. Or we can choose to focus on the bad things, and live in that world.

Heaven and hell are here on earth. You can choose now which one you will live in.

to be in synch with the time..

Thankful that the patriot days storm did not cause me much damage, and I have a happy home (though over taxed).

I'm thankful for

beer
pornography
Marijuana

without which i might not be such a well rounded person

Ok maybe i'm just trying to get a rise out of some of the uber-conservatives, but hey it's fun right? :)

Jonathan, If you want to be high, drunk and go blind, why would we care?

johnross, thank you. How nice to read a happy thread, tho' I'm not sure about the beer, porno and pot part.

To find something to be thankful for each day is necessary to one's well-being, IMO.

Absolutely, BlueJay. John, let me thank you, too, for reminding us that, no matter how many problems we may have, there's always something to be thankful for.

Personally, I am thankful for a healthy and wonderful hubby (whom, I'm sure I've just mortally embarassed  ), for friends and loved ones, and for those who, in spite of pressure from a sector of Political Correctness, continue to manufacture that most exquisite of products: PERFUME! :D

A wife who loves and takes care of me
Two great healthy grown kids that, so far, have sucessfully launched
A chocolate lab who worships the ground I walk on.
A company that has come through the tech bubble burst and is making money again
Life could be ALOT worse.

Why are old grapefruit so good?

Anonymous

It's not that they're better than new ones--just that I like eating the new ones. That is, the orioles don't seem to mind that the fruit I've been giving them came from the dregs of the fridge drawer.

I woke up laughing today. Wife asked me why. It was barely 5 AM, and those damn orioles were already doing their fruit-loopy call from the cherry tree outside our bedroom window.

But for bird calls that make me out-and-out crack up, nothing does it like the bobolink's. Those little guys have a two-part song that is absolutely hilarious. Split personalities.

Not sure where on the priority list....

....but the barbeque grill has to rank right up there near the top!

Our barbeque deck looks out over our apple trees. The last few years heavy rain has wiped out our blossoms. This year a nice barbeque can be enjoyed while looking out over abundant and beautiful apple blossoms. :D

Ahhhhh.......the smell of burgers wafting off the cover grill -- and that first brautwurst of summer -- cold one in hand, looking out over the river and marshland....then the sun sets (well, that part didn't happen in tonight's fog....but dreaming about the sunset is also something to be thankful for) !

:D

And the kids toasted the buns.....Mom didn't have to cook.
