90% of Senate Democrats Took Abramoff Cash

Nearly ninety percent of Senate Democrats took money linked to disgraced "Republican" lobbyist Jack Abramoff, according to a list compiled by the Republican National Committee.

Though reporters continue to insist that the Abramoff imbroglio is "a Republican scandal," 2008 Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton took more than $12,000 in tainted cash.

Compared to the party's 2004 standard bearer, however, she's a piker. John Kerry raked in nearly $100,000 in Abramoff-linked donations.

Apollo. You're missing the point entirely. From the Democrat perspective, it isn't critical that they TOOK the money but WHY they took the money. Republicans take money from lobbyists to do evil because they (Republicans) are inherently evil. Democrats take money from lobbyists to do good because they (Democrats) are inherently good.

I thought everyone knew that.

Congressman Kennedy (D) is keeping his Abramoff client money

Patrick Kennedy to keep tribal donations
Contributions not tied to Abramoff, aide says

By Michael Kranish, Globe Staff | January 6, 2006

WASHINGTON -- US Representative Patrick J. Kennedy, who has collected more donations from tribal clients of once-powerful lobbyist Jack Abramoff than any other Democrat, intends to keep the money, joining a number of Democrats who have decided that Abramoff's plea bargain on conspiracy and fraud charges won't alter their decision.

In addition, political committees run by Democrats and Republicans, which took in hundreds of thousands of dollars from Abramoff's clients, said they did not plan to give the money back or give it away to charity.

A number of Republicans, including President Bush, announced this week that they won't keep campaign donations from Abramoff or his tribal clients, an attempt to distance themselves from Abramoff and his legal troubles. But many Democrats, stressing that they didn't receive cash from Abramoff himself, said they see no reason to reject the donations.

Kennedy, of Rhode Island, received $42,500 from tribes represented by Abramoff over the past five years, making him the top Democratic beneficiary, according to a study by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. He did not receive any donations from Abramoff personally.

Kennedy declined comment yesterday. But his chief of staff, Sean Richardson, said ''there is no relationship at all between Jack Abramoff and the contributions the congressman has received from the tribes." Other Democrats, including Senate minority leader Harry Reid of Nevada, have made similar decisions.

For years, Kennedy has been a top advocate of tribal interests on Capitol Hill, cofounding a congressional caucus on Native American issues and meeting regularly with tribal leaders. Kennedy has also supported tribal efforts to negotiate with states to build casinos, Richardson said.

Following the Money is FUN. Washington DC is a EVIL place, where Political Types slurp around and accept money from anyone.

Political Types are modernday whores, who seem to have one motivation, to get re-elected. They get their money the old fashion way, they get it donated by political Interest groups.

Such is the sleezy beast we created in the Beltway. No wonder our political types we send to DC dont want to talk to the average Mainer, and would rather be at a Fund Raiser in DC or elsewhere.

How many private jet rides have our polital types taken, how many trips to warm areas have our political types taken. I for one would like to see the Schedules of all four of our elected sleezy (by association) political types.

Both republican and Demcrates are caught in this trap time to shed some light onto it.

Abramoff Blocked From Government Work

By Neil King Jr.
...snip

Lawyers at the Interior Department have banned Mr. Abramoff, who was released from prison in June after serving a four-year sentence for fraud and conspiracy, from any business dealings with the U.S. government through 2013. The lawyers said the step was necessary to protect the government’s procurement system.
