Is America Ready for a Mormon President

I have been waiting and waiting for this topic to be addressed.
There was a time when this forum was busy with worries of a muslim president.
Now the discussion of a mormon candidate is absent.
Curious.
We had a Quaker president. I don't believe there has ever been a Mormon suicide bomber.
By your logic (guilt by religious affiliation):
1.) Ted Bundy
2.) Butch Cassidy
3.) Mark Hoffman- suicide bomber
4.) Richard Floyd McCoy, Jr.- airline hijacking
5.) Brian David "Emmanuel" Mitchell- Elizabeth Smart kidnapper, etc...
We have a Marxist President. Why not try a Mormon President now?

Bit of an obsession, Sockeye?
Would you be more concerned on a plane with a bunch of mormons? or muslims? This thread is a joke...
Did you ask if we were ready for a Black/half Black / president?
But let''s see he belongs to a faith that tends to take care of their own, has strict expectations of behavior , encourages service to others and has one heck of a choir
so I vote Yes!!!!
I'm ready for a seasoned grownup with a track record of accomplishment as president. As long as he/she acts that way, I don't give a damn if he/she gets advice from leprechauns.
I am not obsessed, just intrigued. If Harry Reid were running I would bet the carelessness would be absent
Eagleisland, that's the honesty I was looking for.
Faith and race are completely different things.
Tell that to Jeremiah Wright
Faith and race are completely different things.
Not to the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. They're just a couple of campaign planks that are tuned and focused to suit the current audience.
......."Is America Ready for a Mormon President".......
For those who are NOT as long in the tooth as I am, we had this debate over 50 yrs ago when JFK was the nominee of the Dems: ......"Was America ready for (gasp) a CATHOLIC President?".......
In the end it didn't mean anything. And I for one, when JFK faced Soviet Premier Nikita Kruschev down over the ballistic missles in Cuba, 90 miles from Keywest, I was just glad he was a man with guts.
We have had a blooming idiot in the White House for nearly 4 years. At this point I am so desperate to see him leave it that I think I could vote for Atilla the Hun at this point in time, caring not a bit about any religous affiliation he may have!
And Harry Reid is an ugly bucket of bile, no matter what letter is used after his name!
WC
We have had a blooming idiot in the White House for nearly 4 years.
I would dare say, more like 12 years. ;-)
To me, it doesn't matter what religion (if any) is practiced by the occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue -- as long as he/she keeps it to themselves with regard to public policy and the nation's laws.
I can also remember the scandal and angst over Kennedy's religious affiliation. My parents couldn't understand what all the fuss was about, even though we were not Catholic.
Thanks Bob, I never realized they let idiots fly fighter jets.
Lame response Islander, try again.
Lame comment to start with Bob S, try again.
Woodcanoe, I was going to mention the same thing. Much ado about nothing....
Come on Butch, take the blinders off. In no way do I like or support Obama, but let's not blame everthing on him. In order to straighten out the country, we need to first start with our own party.
George W. Bush Doubled the National Debt. He raised the debt ceiling at least 5 time, I do believe it was seven. He gave us the unfunded tax cuts of 2001 and 2003, (which amounted to about 100 dollars a year for the average worker) the Medicare prescription drug plan, TARP and the unfunded wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In June of 2002, Congress approved a $450 billion increase, raising the debt limit to $6.4 trillion. McConnell, Boehner, and Cantor vote “yea”.
In May of 2003, Congress approved a $900 billion increase, raising the debt limit to $7.384 trillion.
In November of 2004, Congress approved an $800 billion increase, raising the debt limit to $8.1 trillion.
In March of 2006, Congress approved a $781 billion increase, raising the debt limit to $8.965 trillion.
In September of 2007, Congress approved an $850 billion increase, raising the debt limit to $9.815 trillion.
Look beyond the letter after the name. It is no longer an R or D thing.
I Pushed the like button on Bob S post.
There was a real effort at the RNC to say Mormons are Christians but all the Christian I had known before Mitt was our nominee
never believed any of this:
God was once a man like us.
God has a tangible body of flesh and bone.
God lives on a planet near the star Kolob.
God ("Heavenly Father") has at least one wife, our "Mother in Heaven," but she is so holy that we are not to discuss her nor pray to her.
Jesus was married.
We can become like God and rule over our own universe.
There are many gods, ruling over their own worlds.
Jesus and Satan ("Lucifer") are brothers, and they are our brothers - we are all spirit children of Heavenly Father
Jesus Christ was conceived by God the Father by having sex with Mary, who was temporarily his wife.
We should not pray to Jesus, nor try to feel a personal relationship with him.
The "Lord" ("Jehovah") in the Old Testament is the being named Jesus in the New Testament, but different from "God the Father" ("Elohim").
In the highest degree of the celestial kingdom some men will have more than one wife.
Before coming to this earth we lived as spirits in a "pre-existence", during which we were tested; our position in this life (whether born to Mormons or savages, or in America or Africa) is our reward or punishment for our obedience in that life.
Dark skin is a curse from God, the result of our sin, or the sin of our ancestors. If sufficiently righteous, a dark-skinned person will become light-skinned.
The Garden of Eden was in Missouri. All humanity before the Great Flood lived in the western hemisphere. The Ark transported Noah and the other survivors to the eastern hemisphere.
Not only will human beings be resurrected to eternal life, but also all animals - everything that has ever lived on earth - will be resurrected and dwell in heaven.
Christ will not return to earth in any year that has seen a rainbow.
Mormons should avoid traveling on water, since Satan rules the waters.
The sun receives its light from the star Kolob.
If a Gentile becomes Mormon, the Holy Ghost actually purges his Gentile blood and replaces it with Israelite blood.
A righteous Mormon will actually see the face of God in the Mormon temple.
You can identify a false angel by the color of his hair, or by offering to shake his hand.
For someone who was just curious and waiting around for this discussion, Sockeye has a quiver just crammed with righteous arrows. Every religion the planet has ever seen is full of inconsistencies, fallacies, prejudices, and plain silliness.
Conspicuous by its absence from Sockeye's list is the commandment: Mormons must kill gentiles at every opportunity by, say, flying airliners into buildings.
It's not on their list.
Sockeye - what do you have against Mormons? Be honest.
Mormons must kill gentiles at every opportunity by, say, flying airliners into buildings.
There are other ways of destroying this country and killings its people other than flying airliners into buildings.
Obamacare/Romneycare comes to mind, coupled with the ever increasing debt, followed by gun control. Did you know that in 2010, the Brady Campaign gave Obama an “F” for his “lack of leadership” on gun control? Did you also know that Romney signed into law the first permanent state assault weapons ban? Just a thought.
It is no longer an R or D thing.
The presidency is also not a "religious" thing.
The thread title:
Is America Ready for a Mormon President?
I actually have nothing personal against Mormons. I do believe it is not a Christian faith.
I am intrigued by the acceptance of a Mormon candidate considering our American history.
I am suspect of what the masses are willing to accept and the context.
I'm just a boy with a stick poking the hornets nest.
I agree Naran, it is also not about Republicans and Democrats. It should be about our children and grandchildren and what kind of country we leave them. Look at past history of a candidate. Look at their voting records. Do Not look at the letter after the name.
Sockeye: It's not on their list.
Exactly. But it is on radical Islam's list. So, of Mormonism and Islam, which should be held in more suspicion by Americans of any faith?

You seen "2016"????
We need an AMERICAN President!!!
