Ammo Prices

We have a web site showing gas prices in Maine. Maybe we need one that shows ammo price and availability. I have visitors from Mississippi. One friend showed me a photo taken yesterday at a gun show in Madison, Mississippi. It was a Federal bulk box of 550 rounds on .22 Long Rifle. It was priced at $100 and they were selling! that's about 18 cents a round for .22. I saw the photo taken at the gun show.

Remember the good old days from last month?

Considering the void of 22s,

Considering the void of 22s, I don't think I'll be selling mine.

I've been watching Natchez, Midway and Midsouth and they have even sold all the 22 birdshot. Midway has some Eley.

I thought I was getting wound up in the hysteria, but considering that even reloading components are getting scarce, I bit and bought some moulds. I've started practicing pouring and remelting a bit until I get a better handle on routine, alloys, lube and sizing. There is no point in being caught flat footed. The idea that things can't get worse is foolhardy. If I'm wrong, no big deal, I've got another hobby.

no related manufacturer had the facilities to increase production [by] more than about 40%. Moreover, even if a company did have such capacity, it could not affordably obtain raw materials to do so — companies [down line] that supply raw materials cannot increase capacity more than about 40%.

In economics this is called the supply-chain bottleneck: Somewhere down the supply chain there will be a supplier that simply cannot ramp up his production as fast as those up line would like.

There is no .22 left. I read

There is no .22 left. I read about a guy who just realized he has enough ammo in his closet to buy a house! Manufacturers are running full out, but many distributors will have nothing for sale for months. Popular firearms have long backlogs. I know a dealer who vaed one 50 round box of .22 to sell with each .22 caliber firearm. He said, "You can't sell a firearm that you can't get ammo for." The days of burning up a 550 round bulk box on Saturday are over.

We are at Walmart...Just sold a couple of 22s the other day..We are getting 22LR but it doesn't last long..Even got a Ruger 10/22 in that has been on order since Christmas..I just tell the customers who bought the 22s , that I would personally hold a box and call them when we get some and we are getting them in atleast once a week..My gun customers come first...Last week we got about 20 boxes of Remington Golden Bullets , 325 bulk box in..Still 10 bucks a box..The week before that we had a case of CCI Minimags..Bought a box of that my own self...LOL..Also getting bulk packs of Federal 223 (100 rounds) in on occasion..35 bucks..also getting value packs of winchester 40Sw , 9MM and 45ACP in..Getting it more regularly now but it doesn't last long..mornings are the best time to get it....Walmart has raised their prices slightly but NOTHING like the mom and pop places are...And the customers are taking note...When they go out of business after this madness stops , Walmart will be blamed but it will be their own doing...

SOP Mike , especially now that we are nearing tourist season..I card everyone except my "regulars"..Gotta watch out for Canucks who can't buy it at all and Massholes who need a FIOD Card to buy ammo.....There are other states too but Mass. is the one that I see the most..HTH...

Earl So there are others

Earl

So there are others that are prohibited from buying ammo, is it the responsibility of the sellers to determine compliance or is it the responsibility of the buyer not to violate their states rule?

If the ammo was used in Maine, does that make a difference?

To comply with all the restrictions/prohibitions by all the states, municipalities and nations would be a daunting task for the seller of ammo.

Has anyone seen any 22 rimfire for sale in large stores? The lack of it begs the question, are they still making it?

To show you how bad it has

To show you how bad it has become, our club buys a couple of cases of .22rf each year to supply our junior shooters with ammo. The last several years we bought from Champion's Choice at Camp Perry and brought back with us to save on the shipping. Last year we paid $533.75 for two cases but this year the same two cases cost us $975. Now that is an 83% increase and indicates to me that some are taking advantage. It doesn't say a lot for the industry to allow such gouging or for that that retailer.

I think that a corporation

I think that a corporation with the buying power of WalMart would be able to get .22 ammo and stock it. Walk into any WalMart and the shelves are empty except for a few odd calibers. Our Appleseed shooters are having a hard time finding ammo. Many people have not heard about the shortage and expect to walk into WalMart or any retailer and get ammo. They are surprised to hear that they have been out of stock for months.

There is an Appleseed shoot on September 14/15 at North Berwick. It's right on the NH line and below Fryeburg. I hope they fill the line because it's close to NH and Mass both.
