Dear friends,
A national poll was just released showing Angus King’s lead has been reduced to just eight points.
King: 43 Summers: 35 Dill:14
This race started in June with Angus up by 35 points. With 50 days to go, we have cut his lead to only 8 points.Angus has outspent us by more than 2 to 1. He has had the overt support of most of the news media. But it doesn’t matter. Now that the Maine people have learned about King’s record of out-of-control spending – leaving a $1 billion deficit and the largest increase in state spending in history – they are leaving him in droves. Now that they know that King left Mainers facing the highest tax burden in the nation, his lead has evaporated. And now that they’re learning that he destroyed Maine’s majestic Western Mountaintops to pursue a taxpayer-funded wind farm boondoggle, they’re changing their minds. Maine voters know that to fix the problems in Washington, we need to send a true leader to the U.S. Senate. And they know that Charlie Summers is that leader. Charlie’s experience as a small businessman, as a father, and as a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan have given him the perspective we need now more than ever. Charlie will vote to repeal Obamacare, cut the spending, and get government out of the way so we can let our small businesses grow this economy again.
You have to consider the liberal bias built into the poll. That would make it a dead heat.
I see Dill is up 6 from 8 . . who can forget 8? How about Summers? I don't remember the last number I saw . . I think it was in the 30s. It was on the front page of the online PPH.
You have to consider the liberal bias built into the poll. That would make it a dead heat.
R-i-i-i-i-ght. And you've documented and analyzed this... how, exactly?
Apollo's source poll and another are features of this BDNstory. It tries to clear up my Summers question, too.
The story also reveals that, among those who were asked, 1 in 7 people do not think Cynthia Dill is a lunatic.
"Dill, in a statement, said the latest poll results “reflect what I am hearing from Maine people: Maine voters support my pledge to fight for working families, to help our weakened middle class and to support President Obama’s plan for important new laws like the Affordable Care Act.”
It cracks me up how the BDN is going out of their way to downplay Summers' increasing poll numbers, but Dill is "surging". Clear up to 14 %.
Have you considered that every polling call, I lie to them? ( just for chuckles and grins)
Dick Morris on O'Reilly, just now . . the Republicans will definately lose Maine. He did say, prior to that, Republicans will retake the Senate.
This is all very interesting . . it's the first time I've watched (more than a few seconds) TV in months.
Plate tectonics: Shepard Smith's eyes have moved further apart.
Dill at 14%? I'm going to have to make up new bumper stickers.
Go Dill!
Can the lie about King leaving a deficit stop? The Constitution requires a balanced budget each year. The so-called deficit is a structural gap between what it would cost to fund every requested program and available revenues. If we are going to call that a deficit , then someone identfy the deficit in the LeRage budget.
Hey Mid !
We all have had enough of the word games. He left us in debt.
Not that I love him because I do not, but while voting against him remember all he did was due to the power being abdicated by legislative branch to executive due to term limits!
Tomorrow Mrs. Libby gets to go to a Greater Federation of Women Legislative Comm.meeting where she will be blessed to hear C.Dill and Kay Rand ! Lucky her!
I have instructed her to ask how laptop is doing and extend to Ms. Rand my appreciation of the thousands of dollars her boss cost me when governor!!!
The PPP poll shows that the percentage of Republicans who have a favorable impression of KIng has fallen from 45% to 22%. That's a huge drop, but it won't go any lower. That 22% of Republicans is always there, in almost every poll or vote, no matter the specific issue or election, and they are a huge part of the problem.
I got this via email yesterday and, no, I have no idea how I got on her mailing list. By the way, she distributes this offal from a GMAIL account. Very professional. Note that it does not specify the before and after numbers.
Cynthia Dill’s poll numbers DOUBLE

LATEST POLL: STRONG GROWING
SUPPORT FOR CYNTHIA DILL
Majority of Mainers share Democrat’s views
on taxing wealthy
CAPE ELIZABETH (Wednesday, September 19, 2012) — Cynthia Dill, Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, today released the following statement about a new political polling survey in Maine:
“The numbers in today’s poll reflect what I am hearing from Maine people: Maine voters support my pledge to fight for working families, to help our weakened middle class and to support President Obama’s plan for important new laws like the Affordable Care Act.
“The poll also shows my opponents’ numbers are slipping, despite hugely expensive advertising campaigns. Charlie Summers cannot shake his party’s extremist agenda targeting women’s rights, marriage equality, the environment and the American middle class. Voters still cannot understand his lack of support for retiring Sen. Olympia Snowe, one of our state’s greatest legislators.
“Angus King has changed his stripes. He supports the Bush tax breaks for the upper one percent; he thinks hydrofracking and the Keystone XL Pipeline are OK. He refuses to be transparent with Maine voters about which party he would caucus with.
“Both men are seriously out of touch with the day-to-day lives and concerns of struggling Maine people, their families and their children.
“This is not 1994 again. Maine needs a fresh generation of new, untangled leadership.
“Maine people agree with my position on the Bush tax cuts, which is also President Obama’s position - having the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes will help our economy.
“I’m a working mom. I’m a small business owner. I am an ordinary Maine person trying to do something to help my state in extraordinary times. And Maine people know I am someone they can always trust because I value transparency and accountability.”
Let’s keep our shared Democratic values and issues at the forefront of this election and keep this momentum going!
Your contribution today will make a BIG DIFFERENCE.
With gratitude,
Cynthia Dill
Democratic Nominee for US Senate
Ever since the Democratic "establishment", including the Pingree Press Herald, (and as far as I know - Bill Nemitz) have switched their normal Democrat allegence to King, King has declined while Dill has advanced.
A solid anti-Dill column from Nemitz might get her into the running!
Go Cynthia!
We need to get Dill boosted up into the 20% range. Can she go out and desecrate some more military gravesites? That would energize her anti American base.
Mid-Coast, you're right.
Instead of saying Angus left a deficit, we should be saying that he grew state spending to a level that was unsustainable.
Amen.
Those trying to deny King's profligate over-spending remind me of the Titanic's final dinner guests - the ones still sitting at their tables, outraged over the slow service, while the waiters and cooks were running for the few lifeboats remaining.
It's hard to successfully get anywhere when someone walks around peering into the mirror they're holding up.
Maine mom;
That is a more accurate description.
At the function my wife attended today she relayed why her star is rising.
She took entire credit for expansion of internet in rural Maine!!!
As well as telling assembled groups that the Gov. was not the gov. we need in Maine eliciting groans from most attendees.
No one seemed to be able to figure out what that had to do with the Senatorial race .
Mrs. L. summed it up that she was a terrible speaker and a idiot !
Interesting.....first, I'd take an 8 point lead in any election. However, this race is now starting to shake out like our gubernatorial race....if Dill can gain ground and suck more democratic votes from the other democrat as we saw with Cutler/Mitchell, then if Charlie can somehow manage a surge......it's actually possible. I see and hear so little from that campaign.........I don't know. But let's hope!

"Cynthia Dill - Almost twice as much as she had before!"
I agree, we need to get Nemitz to do a hit piece on Dill. Can you imagine how much he panicked when he saw that Angus' lead evaporated into thin air?
This nonsense about Maine requiring a balanced budget was proven to be hogwash when the failed Baldacci administration "balanced" the budget by simply not paying the bills. I trust that even MCM can see that is sheer lunacy.
You are ****** me right? Nothing comes close to the previous R administration (can you spell Jock?) I am no fan of Baldacci, because he was too much of an R (you know, don't increase revenues in spite of the obvious need, but also don't cut programs because that is too difficult). The fact remains, the constitution requires a balanced budget, the so called deficit is the difference between programs that have been requested/approved and the $$ to fund them.
MCM - kindly forgo the obscenities. I am confident you can find a better way to express your opinion.
Thank you.
MCM,
I understand that you're a government employee and your budgeting reality is different from the real world, but even you should be able to understand that merely refusing to pay hundreds of millions of past due bills is not balancing a budget in any way, shape, or form.
The only poll that matters is the ballot cast in November...
The fact remains that King is a tax and spend liberal who ran up a billion dollar deficit, then pretended like it didn't really exist. But he doesn't care because it doesn't affect him or his $407,000 "success fee" kickback from the multi billion dollar Obama bailout footed by taxpayers making minimum wage.
In my blog post Angus King's Almost Legal Insider's Investors' Club, I pondered what might be the amount of the"fees" that the board of the SEGF is allowed to charge and who covers that cost. - This is a taxpayer subsidized high growth investment company signed into law by Angus King and so it is reasonable to wonder if we might not use the fees that King himself gets paid as a measure of the fees that the board charges. In analyzing the parsing of words in the section on the fund I found that it would be possible to charge all costs to the taxpayer. I can't prove that this is the case- but I can show that it is consistent with the language in the statute.
Below is a quote from my post:
3. Management fees. The board may charge and accept management fees for management of money placed in program funds other than money placed directly by the State.
[ 2009, c. 475, §4 (NEW) .]
(Note- in other words management fees over the "9 dollars that high growth investors contribute for every dollar that Maine taxpayer unknowingly invest in this fund" - and where would the administrative costs of those management fees be coming from? And what is the going rate for money management fees in the private sector? in the public sector? I guess all of that is on a "need to know basis" and in the arrogance of those responsible for this construction, taxpayer investors are not on that basis- and apparently neither is anyone beyond the inner circle)

Surely, Apollo, you MUST be aware that an 8 point lead is well outside of the margin of error, and that any claim that this makes it a "dead heat" is laughable on its face and makes YOU look like a fool?
The trends are great. There's a real race here. But let's calm down on the hyperbole, shall we?
