Gays and lesbians are not trying to deny a whole group of "traditional marriage" folks the right to marry.

Come on, Charlotte. I used to be a liberal. These people think their personal mission in life is to "deconstruct the patriarcy," which includes traditional marriage, and they don't care who get destroyed in the process.

Over the years we've posted about a bazillion links to far left loonies who are happy to write papers on just that topic.

We glimpsed people working from many angles to overthrow, undermine and deconstruct the patriarchy, the oligarchy, the hierarchy and the arrogant blindness of imperial mentality

* snort *

There is another way tour

At its best, we can heal; we can deconstruct the patriarchy's lies, we can reinvent ourselves in our own image. Good therapy is a tool that can help this process.

Being a GOOD Gender Therapist

Marriage is weird and creepy. A procedure with origins in the brackish protoplasm of primitive civilization and its first dirt-slogging economies, its original purpose was simple, if grim: to ensure, by recognized custom, the orderly exchange of chattel--such as goats and women--between families and through future generations. This created patriarchy.

I Blame The Patriarchy

Et cetera, ad nauseam...

They are just perfectly happy to admit it, Charlotte.

You should be, too.

Charlotte, I know it's difficult for you to understand, but your inexact language is causing confusion. You need to remember that to the majority of Mainers, YOUR SIDE is "the opposition."

How about you try to be a little more exact with the way you word things. That way, you don't needlessly confuse people.

Unless, of course, your goal is to have a confusing dialogue...

Yeah, that's right MA.

There were over ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND signatures on the petition to save marriage. That is more than ANY OTHER PETITION IN MAINE HISTORY. That is over twice as many signatures as other groups that spent TWICE AS MUCH gathering signatures got!

While nowadays you need paid organizers nowadays to get the 55,000 signatories to get a matter on the ballot, it appears that the group looking to save marriage would have got the 55,000 signatures even if they didn't use a paid group!

Anyway you look at it - it is an unprecedented wave of popular support!

We HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE IN MAINE HISTORY!

In Charlotte's The Opposition's imagination, we all wake up and what's bad is good, what's good is bad, up is down, and in is out - Traditional marriages are the queer relationships, and they need to beg, cry, shout and threaten their way to normalcy. The sad by-product of ineffective education and self-esteem aggrandizement, where people think that their addictions, misbehaviors, and down-right sinful dispositions are not their fault, that they are permanent members of the victim-class, and everyone else needs to bend their baseline of judgment downward to meet The Opposition's own low expectations of themselves. It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A!

speaking of "poppycock" - this phrase is full of it: "That is exactly what many in the opposition do".

Gays & lesbians have done more violence and displayed more hatred than any other group even remotely interested in this issue. They have harassed, intimidated and lied more than any group I know of. They are the least tolerant of all.

HANOVER, Penn., July 29 /Christian Newswire/ -- Volunteers from the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property (TFP) were assaulted by pro-homosexual activists yesterday in Warwick, Rhode Island, as they peacefully held signs in support of traditional marriage.

Volunteer, Rex Teodosio described the scene: "We were at a busy intersection, getting strong support for traditional marriage. Three women approached us -- one threw mayonnaise, while the other two grappled with our photographer.

"Then we were sprayed with mace. Finally, a burly woman got out of a car and punched our photographer in the face. They shouted obscenities the whole time.

"It happened suddenly. But we got the license plate number of the second car; someone in the first car had covered its license plate with a shirt. We filed a report with the police."

Pro-homosexual individuals have thrown water bottles, pesticide, rotten eggs and soda at TFP volunteers. But this is the first time the Catholic group was pepper sprayed, punched and sustained head injuries.

Police at Warwick station responded promptly and have opened a case. Pictures and video footage of the assault are helping the investigation.

Tom...so let me see if I get your position correctly. You believe gays and lesbians are "liberal" and that their personal mission in life is to "deconstruct the patriarcy"? Did I get that right?

Maine, do you have a link?

Bob...shame on you. Now what side has a history in Maine of harassing, intimidating and lying about the gay community here? I don't support any of that behavior. I did not support it when certain Christians would do just that here in Maine.

Here is an example of Christians behaving badly...

Charlotte - It is difficult in all these "discussions" to address comments without sounding like it is directed at you personally. I don't think we have ever met and I have no desire to make a judgment as to your character. But I cannot bring myself to sit by and let these increasingly outrageous comments go without response.

Most Christians in Maine, and elsewhere, do not and have not harrassed, intimidated or lied about the gay community. It is completely false to claim otherwise. We all know that you can find one or two examples and repeat them over and over to imply that it is a fair example. I did not say that you support that behavior - I don't believe you would. But you do purposely overlook the truth. From California to Maine, it is the gay community that has harassed people, exposed them to intimidation by such things as publishing their home addresses, etc.
You like to bring up the fact that Mike Hein took a video camera to a public "gay pride" parade, but you ignore the fact that gays have targeted church services with protests, interuptions and public mockery. You have said nothing about the harassing of Mormons in California and elsewhere. You failed to comment on the lewd behavior in protest of events such as "Love Won Out".

When Mike Heath wrongly called for rumors, etc about gays in state government, Christians in the legislature joined everyone else in condemning that behavior. When did the gay community ever even hint at disapproval of the violence against Christians? When did Equality Maine ever make a statement calling for an end to the harassment and the public ridicule of Christians?

The gay community loves to call us "haters" and "bigots" and things that cannot be posted here. Those are lies. I am not a hater and I am not a bigot. Nor are the thousands I work with to preserve marriage in Maine and elsewhere.

When Marc Mutty and Bishop Malone helped the gay community, they wre your heroes and the Catholic Church was wonderful. Now they do not agree and they have suddenly become everything but good in the eyes of the gay community. That is hypocrisy and it is lying to say they are motivated by hatred and bigotry.

I will not be hurt by the wicked names I am called. I can handle all the harassment. I will not be intimidated or silenced by Equality Maine, the MCLU, GLAD, ACLU, Human Rights Campaign and all their alllies. And I will not sit by the side and let these lies be broadcast without an answer any more.

Charlotte The Opposition:Here is an example of Christians behaving badly...

Would you be able to provide any examples of Christians attacking homosexuals that took place in this time zone, or that were documented in something other than a campus newspaper? I'm not saying that some group, identified as members of a church with a history of flamboyant public protests, didn't exercise their First Amendment rights to burn a flag that by design mocked the flag of the United States of America in Indiana in 2005, I'm just asking for something relevant to the state of Maine in 2009. Ask Jesse for another example... if he's not too busy cashing out-of-state checks or helping Californians find places to live.

Ummmmm...no.

I differentiate between "gays and lesbians" who I think are, in general, fine upstanding citizens - and "gay rights activists" (many of whom are self-hating heterosexuals) who I think are hateful and deceitful politically-motivated activists who will do anything, and don't care who is hurt, as long as their cause is advanced.

Do you understand better now?

Mike Heath also quickly realized he was wrong and retracted the statement and offered an unqualified public apology, accepting full responsibility for his words and actions.

I'm not seeing a single member of the homosexual activist groups saying a single syllable which leads me to believe they are sorry, condemn such actions, or ask the groups which they have formed to calm down.

Now you're just being silly, TD. Do you really believe that any community organizer who is making the kind of salary Jesse is making cashes the checks? He has, I'm sure, used his hefty salary to hire someone else to do so.

I am sorry you don't care for ping pong, Naran. But I read these posts for a long, long time without bothering to answer. But those days are gone. When someone tells a lie, it should be corrected, without regard to political correctness. (and yes, it works both ways)

WV I am not comparing Bob with the behavior in that article.... He would never do what was done there. I am saying that both sides have their poor behaving supporters.

Bob...understand I do not have anything personally against you. I disagree with your position and your tactics. That is all. You, however cling to the misconception that those Christians opposing gay marriage all act appropriately. I disagree with that...and have facts to prove that.

Have some proponents nationwide acted badly. Yep. That we can agree....I am honest enough to admit that the proponents have some participants that are dolts...However, to say that the opposition doesn't include any folks that behave badly...is just plain ignorant.

Let's just stick to some examples here in Maine alone:

1. Do you remember how the Christian Civic League attacked Betsy Sweet (a lobbyist in Maine)? They publically assasinated her and her family...to clients and to the public.

2. The CCL sent representatives to the showing of "The Bible Tells Me So"...to intimidate participants at UCC churches. They publicized this...and were less then contrite.

3. A certain CCL member photographed participants at a gay event. These folks asked not to be photographed...The Christian continued to harass ...and disregard that request....

4. Last, Mike Heath asked for the legislature to "out" all politicians who were gay.

5. At the testimony, this past April ...an opposition speaker...compared gay marriage to molestation of children....that was just the worst attack against gays and lesbians during the testimony.

Those are just a few that rise to the top.

As for publicially admitting to the press... What violence against Christians here in Maine should EQME shun? While we are on the topic...I never heard your press conference where you publicly disavowed the testimony that compared gay/lesbian marriage to child molestation?Did I miss that news clip?

You need to understand that the opposition is not squeaky clean...they have some nuts. Once you get your arms around that...You'll have a bit more credibility with me.

Charlotte, there you go again.
You are making up stories as you go. I have never said that all Christians or all proponents of marriage always act appropriately.
You just posted a long thread talking about three people and you were not even accurate about their behavior.

My objection is the way to try to portray "most" marriage proponents as violent, harassing and rude. It is a lie.
My second objection is that you try to portray the most political powerful group of activists in Maine (gays) as victims. It is not true.

And if I am allowed a 3rd objection it is that marriage proponents are constantly referred to as "haters", "bigots", "fundies", etc. Also lies!

It is not reasonable to expect not to be photographed when you are in public, particurlarly if you are in a parade.

Bob so it sounds like we agree then. Both sides have supporters who act badly. As for my reporting on CCL activities...please point out where you think I am inaccurate.

I don't believe most opposing marriage equality are violent...never have said this. In addition, where did I protray political groups supportive of marriage equality as victims?

Where did I call you a hater/bigot?

Dan...sure. However, when you start following someone specifically...a person who has made a point of telling you to stop (not just tape a public even)...you are asking for trouble.
