WVOM-FM 101.3/103.9 just spoke with a caller about a topic I'm hearing come up more-and-more on WVOM. The topic is the scarcity of Maine's deer population. V. Paul Reynolds, host of WVOM's "The Maine Outdoors" show said in a soundbite that this either is or will be Maine's worst deer hunting season on record.
Point: Self-identifying hunters are calling in blaming coyotes and wild turkeys. Coyotes, say the hunter/callers, are attacking/killing the deer. The turkeys, they say, are reproducing too much and eating food that would otherwise be available for deer.
Does this makes sense? Do you have a plausible reason why there are so few deer?
