BAR HARBOR "” Now that the Planning Board has approved Charles Bishop's division of land to create a new, 5-acre house lot adjacent to Acadia Wildlife Foundation property, it remains to be seen what if any effect it will have on wildlife rehabilitation.

Anne Rivers, director of Acadia Wildlife Foundation, had objected to the subdivision..... She said the animals need to be completely isolated from the sight or sound of people and household pets.

Well, duh - then move the danged enclosure. That's if the bear cubs would actually be paying any attention to the noise from a house some acres away from them.

Kinda funny situation, when you look at the competing list of environmentally friendly credentials on both sides.

And what of the naturally raised bear cubs who are taught by their sows to raid domestic back yards & garbage cans?

You bet - how DO those poor darlings ever recover from their close encounters with clotheslines, garage doors, and the occasional dog?? Honestly. We should build them a spa.

The average bear, even immature, is much more than a match for most dogs.
