Come on, Earl. You can do better than that. Relying on cheap shots weakens your points. If cheap shots is the best you have to offer, please use them via PM. Thank you.

Excellent news on Berg. Thanks. They are an important part of Maine's economy; not so much for their size as for their refreshing entrepreneurial spirit and diversity.

Quote:
Howie read a statement from Berg a few days ago. It was carefully worded, said that they are open for business as usual and that no charges have been filed or even hinted at.

If memory serves, the Patriot Act carries gag order power in what is called the "business records provision", which might be the reason for his silence.

Earl,
I read the whole post. Don't try to dismiss or gloss over the fact that you were seriously disrespectful to Mike and his son with your host of presumptions motivated by deep-seated anxieties and projected in a plethora of conflicting fears and angers. You have no intellectual consistency and your slew of insults mixed with lecturing made no sense. If you ever talked about my kid that way I would take an issue with you via PM and we could meet to "discuss" the issue. But, considering your favorite game is ***** I would doubt you would do that...hope you felt better about your own life after your insults.

Nationwide Crackdown nets $3.5 million in phony NFL gear

This article in the Washington Times describes ICE cracking down on the selling of unauthorized NFL merchandise in Dallas. It sounds like the same sort of crackdown that Berg's Sportswear might have experienced.

Those were certainly the agencies at the Berg raid. Nothing has been heard for a while, but this sure sounds like a possibility as these were the agencies involved.

I know that this kind of merchandise is very valuable as it is extremely high priced in stores and other vendors.

It would be hard to imagine that anyone with a going business would take such a chance as to do something like this. But I have seen way too much temptation before in a lot of people. I would guess that any law enforcement agency, seizing a quantity of this merchandise could easily tell from written records if it was properly licensed or not.

Not a risk I would ever take but there are lots of folks who that does not bother.

Counterfeit merchandise is pretty common in the screen printing world. A blank tshirt costs about $1.10 and they can add any logo they want for pennies.

It should be pointed out that any speculation about Berg Sportswear and counterfeit merchandise is just that - speculation. We don't know why the company was raided, nor what the Feds have found.

I would hate to see a good Maine company's name besmirched unfairly.

Such counterfeiting sounds like a civil matter to me.

Why is ICE involved? Are they doing this because there are no more problems with illegal aliens?

I WAS gonna just let this go but since it's gonna go on...

I guess the flipstick now speaks for MikeG...LOL....He stuck his nose into OUR discussion which was OVER 2 weeks old at the time and the thread off the first page and took it completely out of context , I responded in LIKE fashion...I think he cruises threads looking for things to jump on me...It has to do with LePage not giving him a job and hiring his daughter or something like that and my disagreement with him on it and pointing out he was copying and pasting the same thing OVER and OVER in every thread..He has never gotten over it I guess....Is the Farmers comment going to be removed ??? I didn't think so...He is still mad at me for pointing out the difference between "hobby farming" and REAL farming...LOL....I guess it depends on who does the name calling and the nature of the tone....Neither was Michelle's calling me an uninformed squawk box in the Welare thread...She was upset that I disagreed with her on drug testing for welfare receiptients and used her moderator power to go crying to Naran and the Editor to have my use of the word dipstick removed and be chastised by the Editor in retibution...Petty...So be carefull if you disagree with the moderators , especially if you win the arguement...LOL......Your every post will get EXTRA srutiny..

I bet the Bergs will not see the near $40,000 in cash that was taken from their safe. Cops love cash, and it leaves no tracks.

Is it illegal to have cash now in the "Changed" America? Is this part of the change that Obama promised us? The way the fed is counterfeiting money you'll soon need that much to buy gas and groceries. What then?

I have the good fortune to be listening to Howie Carr, this afternoon. He just mentioned his 'Berg' shirt prizes . . Whatever happened to this case?

Apparently there has been no case, unless the investigation is ongoing. Berg Enterprises are still printing tee shirts!

I recently won a Howie Carr contest and got a Biff Buffington WOMG! weatherman cap and a Howie Carr for President tee-shirt. Both came from Berg and were of excellent quality. I hope the Feds don't put him out of business.

I lost count how many times i read a Chinese restaurant was closed down by the Feds for this or that. A week or two later, the restaurant is open already. Perhaps the Feds gave a plea bargain that penalized the business owners but avoided a penalty that would drive the business out of business.

Holy Guacamole! Here comes the Berg case . .

"Arrested by state and federal officers on felony drug charges Monday were Malcolm French, Robert Berg, Kendall Chase, Rodney Russell and one unnamed person . . " (not me)

"The presence of so many officers from federal agencies -- many now involved in the Washington County drug case -- in an apparent trademark case prompted Berg and the company to issue a statement through their attorney, Charles Gilbert.

"The affidavit recites that one of the participating agencies in the raid was the Maine (Drug Enforcement Agency), yet there was nothing in the affidavit which remotely suggested the presence of anything of interest to drug agents," reads the statement, according to an article in the Bangor Daily News in August 2011."

Reminds me of woodcanoe's contractor/oxycodone story.
