Dexter Kamilewicz, 207-653-0770
Joanne Twomey, a 4-term Democratic Representative in the Maine Legislature representing part of Biddeford, has endorsed Dexter Kamilewicz in his bid for Maine's 1st District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Twomey had this to say in endorsing Kamilewicz, "I am tired of politicians who cannot get single payer health care out of their mouths. I am tired of politicians who vote to fund the occupation of Iraq. The time is now to stand up for what we believe in and if the person running for office is not a Democrat, then shame on us," referring to Maine's Democratic Party.
Before being elected to the Legislature, Rep. Twomey was a city councilor in Biddeford for six years. She is a long-time environmental activist, collecting samples to bring a $2 million fine against the local incinerator. She was a small business owner and is serving her fourth term in the Maine House of Representatives. Rep. Twomey serves on the Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, and Natural Resources Committees, in addition to being part of a Blue Ribbon Commission on Solid Waste Management. Due to term limits, Rep. Twomey is approaching the end of her tenure in Augusta.
Rep. Twomey cares deeply about being a voice for those who don't have one. She is especially concerned for the interests of our seniors, low-income people, and workers. She believes in the need to attract businesses that will pay living wages to their employees.
On receiving the endorsement, Kamilewicz said, "Joanne Twomey is a Maine State legislator who has the moral fiber and passion that has allowed her to keep the sacred trust that she earned from her neighbors and her constituents in the Biddeford district she represents. Joanne Twomey raises questions about positions she believes rise above party politics. Joanne Twomey is the kind of Mainer I respect and want to be like, a person of integrity who puts people above self. I am proud to have Joanne Twomey's endorsement for Congress; she represents the kind of person we all deserve to have representing us and the kind of person I will emulate in Congress."
