Blaine Richardson Throws Support to Kevin Raye
Former rival endorses Senate President’s Congressional bid in show of unity
Augusta, Maine – In an appearance before the Maine Republican State Committee on Saturday, former 2nd Congressional District candidate Blaine Richardson publicly announced his endorsement of Senate President Kevin Raye’s candidacy for the 2nd District seat.
Richardson joined Karen Raye, wife of the Senate President, in speaking to the GOP State Committee. He announced he is “100% behind Kevin Raye’s bid to become Maine’s next 2nd District Congressman.” Raye’s wife represented him because the Senate President himself had a longstanding previous commitment to address the American Legion State Convention in Bangor on Saturday.
“At the end of the day, Kevin and I share the same goal: to elect a new voice to represent Maine’s 2nd District. Kevin Raye understands the challenges our nation faces and he is ready to go to Washington and work to solve the problems,” said Richardson. “I am proud to stand with him in that quest.”
“I am very pleased to be here with Blaine Richardson in a demonstration of unity going into the general election,” said Karen Raye. “Blaine brought energy and passion to his run. He and my husband Kevin have gotten along from the outset, running a respectful race that avoided the negativity that so often is found in today’s political campaigns.”
“Blaine Richardson has served his country with honor and I appreciate having him in my corner,” said Kevin Raye in a written statement. “This campaign is going to be about jobs, the economy and the explosion of federal spending and government intrusion. While tens of thousands of Mainers are employed by small businesses, our Congressman earned a zero rating from the National Federation of Independent Businesses last year, and has supported the reckless spending spree that has spiked the debt to nearly $16 trillion. Mainers deserve a stronger voice in Washington and, with the help of supporters like Blaine Richardson, we will get that message out between now and November.”
