Sorry, just kidding. Actually, he's headlining the Dem convention in Portland, along with the Duke and Duchess of North Haven.

I was just hoping someone in attendance would ask Michaud when he plans to give up his luxury $795/month taxpayer-funded auto lease, and pay for his own commuting costs, and his own lunch. Seeing as he makes $174K per year, plus all those benefits, perks, per-diems and expense accounts, I figure he can afford it.

I cannot claim credit for the coining - the phrase came from an astute reader making comments on the PPH pages.

It surely does fit, does it not?

The illuminated sign " Maine Dems" takes on the appearance of a red light district selling impulsive pleasures. I've always known Dems to spend other peoples money like a tourists in Los Vagas.

Stop picking on Mike!! One of the most obscure congressmen in Washington(Maine's very own forklift pilot!) is doing his damndest to be noticed by driving a big car....... now if we could just afford to buy him some big cigars to smoke........

Say what you want, he will get re-elected, as will Chellie.

As always, Hope Springs Eternal. The fact that Michaud is driving a "free" car costing as much per month as many Mainers spend on their mortgage resonates with a lot of voters, particularly those having a hard time financially.

At the very least, by putting the facts out there, I figure more voters will have all the facts, not just those the Democrats are cherry-picking for popular consumption.

Well of course the crowd was a little thin....it was close to the end of the month . There wasn't enough of a cash benefit left on the EBT cards to buy gas to get there....

Notes:

1) The "Truth/Falsehood" meter on the previous articles is somehow missing on this one.
2) Ditto for reader comments. None allowed on the page. How surprising.

Conclusion: Media Bias ----> Omnipresent.

Truth Test: U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud's speech at the Democratic State Convention

By MICHAEL SHEPHERD
Kennebec Journal

"When I first ran for Congress 10 years ago... outspent by a Republican opponent...by 2-to-1 ..."

...snip
...Michaud's statement to the party faithful in Augusta was inaccurate.

Michaud took in $1,185,955 and spent $1,172,764 in... 2002...Raye took in $1,130,810 and spent $1,128,820..... So Michaud actually outspent...GOP opponent by about $44,000.

...snip
VERDICT: WHETHER ANYONE HAS A FULL HANDLE ON THE PICTURE OR NOT, MICHAUD'S ASSERTION THAT RAYE OUTSPENT HIM 2-1 IS SIMPLY NOT SUPPORTED BY THE FACTS. WE RATE THIS STATEMENT FALSE.

The previous "Truth Test" results meter on the other articles looked like this:

Strangely, it's absent from the Michaud article. Ain't that odd.

And, now.... both comments and True/False graphic have been added. Hooray for equitable treatment of all candidates.

"This is a rough, back-of-the-envelope estimate on our part," Olson said. "I doubt anyone has a full handle on the picture."

I have to remember that one next time I am 300% off.

Same here, Rep. McKane. I'm so happy the "way forward" from gross ineptitude has been so carefully paved.

'Cocktail napkin estimate' sounds more like it.
