Yeah, I'll give you The Rock, LLCool J, and Kid Rock, but I ain't going to see the new Tom Sellick/Britney Spears movie, no matter if Clint's directing it or not.

Tim:

I don't know how old you are but, at my age, if Heather Locklear, Gloria Estefan, Janine Turner, Bo Derek or Cheryl Ladd were to walk into my room after 11 p.m. "to discuss politics" they would be welcomed and not considered has beens! And they've aged better than their Leftist counterparts because they smiled more while attending GOP National Conventions and weren't srunching up their faces in angry grimaces at protest rallies.

Yeah, but what if they brought Don King and Meatloaf with them? Buzzkill!

Don King or Meatloaf would be welcomed before 11 p.m., not after. And, leaning conservative, they would understand the propriety of the situation and know the ladies would be in good hands with me.

Yeah, but I'm afraid 50 Cent would crash the party and never leave.

BTW, no mention of Mel Gibson?

Mel Gibson is a religious fanatic not a political conservative.

From the Wonderful World of Wiki: "Gibson has been described as “ultraconservative”...... In 2004, he publicly spoke out against taxpayer-funded embryonic stem-cell research that involves the cloning and destruction of human embryos. In March 2005, he condemned the outcome of the Terri Schiavo case, referring to Schiavo's death as "state-sanctioned murder".

If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck......

Those are social issues. I could introduce you to active liberal Democrats who still march in Catholic rallies against abortion and the other social agenda. That is not a sign of political conservativism for individual liberty or small government or lower taxes. So, I repeat, Mel Gibson is a religious fanatic, not a political conservative. And Wikipaedia isn't the same as a definitive source; whomever wrote the entry used the word "ultraconservative." That adjective is appropriate in the context of "an untraconservative Catholic."

Tim....I know you actually believe your having fun....but most of those 'has beens' are also entrepenuers still contributing with jobs and taxes. Alice Copper developed a restaurant concept and is heavily tied to the Arizon Diamondbacks and stadium catering. Locklear still has health/beauty concepts and the list goes on. Those has beens have the ability and drive to continue long after their film/music careers have waned. I would welcome sitting down with any of them and discussing whatever topic arises.

Tim took this thread off track with his Mel Gibson man crush obsession. I started this thread when I saw the WCBS slide show because it shows how far conservatives have come over the years that there are now so many celebrities openly on the Right. When I was in Youth for Goldwater in the early-60's we used to lament that the Democrats had all the luck: they had Marylin Monroe and Rosemary Clooney appearing at their rallies while all we had were Walter Brennan and Ray Bolger! (And, until he started giving his political speech during the Goldwater campaign, we didn't consider the Ronald Reagan from Death Valley Days as a Tier I celebrity to rival what the Democrats used at their rallies.) On the distaff side there was always Rosiland Russell (Auntie Mame) who used to keep Mamie Eisenhower company at the White House as they drank the afternoon away in boredom. We had an irreverant motto in Young Republicans: "Republican boys have every intention of marrying a proper Republican girl but first they date Democrat girls so they can have some fun." So this list shows we've come a long long way and being conservative is sexy.

I wouldn't buy Britney Spears. Just because she comes from a part of the country where you are expected to be "conservative". How has she ever evidenced this in her life?

I dislike born GOP as much I despise born DNC. Think about politics, don't just vote one way because your family or friends do.

Kid Rock is pretty much the man though. I think Bruce Willis is conservative too.

Vic--"man crush"? Really? Why are you going down that path?

Jonathan-- a chat with Britney about politics would be amusing, that's for sure. And, coincidentally ("man crush" aside), Brit-Brit and Mel were next door neighbors in LA. Perhaps sure learned her politics (and crazazy) from him.

tjc--I've been a sound man, and a caterer, but not at the same time.

Well, thank heavens for that -- taramasalata in the tambourines wouldn't do, at all.

Naran, you hit upon a great theme restaurant idea and we know in LA and NYC it's all about the theme, not the food. Let's open La Musica and serve every dish in a musical instrument. And the big challenge (like those steak houses that offer a free meal to the entire table if someone can devour the 48-ounce cut of steak in 90 minutes) would be who could eat everything in the tuba!

Of course, I'm bragging about all these conservative celebrities. I'd hate to imagine which one would patronize it because, to him or her, it is haut cuisine!

I think Meat Loaf would be a natural.

Of course it would. And as long as the kitchen serves up any dish in a timbale, or slices the veggies on a mandolin, and cuts cheese on a guitar, they're staying true to vision.

With all that said: Tim, your snark at the idea that conservatives in Hollywood are over the hill was... well, naive at best, ignorant at middle, and clueless at worst. Consider the famed saying: "show me a man who isn't a socialist at the age of 20, and I'll show you a man with no heart. Show me a man who is STILL a socialist at the age of 40, and I'll show you a man with no brain."

Hollywood favors the gorgeous, which means it favors the young: the ones without the life experience.

And your excuse is...?

Eagleisland--your turning this thread into a personal attack on me is tiresome, yet not surprising. My "has-been" comment was pointed to the fact that most of the right-wing leaning celebrities listed have already peaked in popularity--not that all right-wingers in Hollywood are over the hill. They're famous for whatever reason. And there are plenty of celebs who are not the typical young and gorgeous types. Who really cares what political orientation they possess? For God's sake, lighten up.

No, Tim - you specifically implied that the conservatives in Hollywood are over the hill. Nor was it a personal attack. It was a question.

Jeez, eagleisland, I'm impressed. What you still fail to realize is that, unless that is the complete list of celebs that lean to the right, I did not say that "the conservatives in Hollywood are over the hill." If that is indeed the complete list of Hollywood righties, it's small wonder a movie like "Atlas Shrugged" did so poorly at the box office.
