How important is global warming in Maine? Not important enough for local television.

Michael Palmer, the general manager of television stations WVII and WFVX, ABC and Fox affiliates in Bangor, has told his joint staff of nine men and women that when "Bar Harbor is underwater, then we can do global warming stories."

"Until then," he added. "No more."

During the height of the storm, Saturday; we drove to watch the enormous surf crashing around Land's End on Bailey's Island.

We took the road to Harpswell and there is a place where the road dips down, and much to my surprise the storm surge drove water through a field to the edge of the road. a little bit more, and the ocean would have seperated the two pieces of land as it once did a few hundred years a go. It was a vivid reminder when this part of harpswell was an island and this low spot was underwater.

If you spend much time on the edge of Maine, you note that old settlements, POPHAM colony is one; were by the sea but now are inland. There is obvious indication that the ocean levels were much higher...soil deposits and erosion, old pilings, etc. Lighthouses measure the ocean level and while the Maine Geological service revealed a gradual increase in the ocean's level; there are historical indicators that it once was a lot higher.

Global warning hysteria fail to account for these higher ocean levels.

climate change should be evaluated over thousands of years not a few decades. That is the fundamental mistake.

Part of the problem is ignorance of history. It shocks many Britons when they learn that in fact the Romans grew wine grapes in Northern England during their rule here. Right now one can only do this in the farthest South of the Isle. The enviromental lobby rely on the ignorance of the masses to get their view across.
