Amesbury Chamber of Commerce executive director William Piercey has been placed on leave from his job and faces multiple charges following his arrest Sunday for allegedly punching a child while heavily intoxicated, according to police reports.

Oh.

I thought this story was what you meant by "behaving badly."

Tom C, this thread, in my view, is very poorly titled. The story you linked is about one employee, the executive director, of a local chamber of commerce in Massachusetts. It is not about chamber "directors" making poor choices. Your brush is painting a bit too broadly, me thinks. And as such, it discredits other chambers, generally, and unfortunately, without cause.

Plus, the story about the individual invovled revolves soley about his personal family life. His actions and subsequent arrest are not related to his chamber position.

Good point, Dale, the thread title is plural, where the story described a singular situation. Excellent catch.

Here, this will fix that:

The president of the Exeter Area Chamber of Commerce is facing a drug charge after his arrest at a sobriety checkpoint in Seabrook Friday night.

You have way too much free time on your hands, Tom C. Now tell me, how do these nationwide isolated cases relate to anything? Oh, and if you'll google your profession, I'm confident you'll find similar results, whatever your profession may be. And, no, I do not work for nor have I ever worked for a chamber of commerce. I am, though, on the board of directors of one.

Human beings, by our very nature, are flawed products. Has something directly to do with original sin. God provides us the opportunity to believe, repent and become saved from ourselves, so to speak, in the process called being "born again." Perhaps you should check into it. There is nothing in this world that cannot be overcome with and through the power of Jesus Christ. I highly recommend it. And it would give you something to do with all of your excess time. That's definitely a win-win opportunity!

Hmmm...

Can I suggest a switch to decaf?

I'm already at half decaf, half high test. But I'll act on your recommendation if you'll act on mine.

It would be intersting to find out how many of these are the result of jobs given after "nationwide search" vs finding the best possible candidate, too often its the good old boy network that gets one hired for these.

Or the one that take a job at the pay they usually offer these folks. I won't say that some COCs are stingy...

Hey, Naran; Does this pillow fight need a referee or just a simple thread deletion for mis-title?

You can find sources for pillows at your local Chamber of Commerce.

The original post incident had nothing to do with what the guy does for a living. Why not a "Father Allegedly Punches Son"? Would the newspaper have used this guy's profession, no matter what, in their headline? "Lowe's Hardware Salesman Allegedly Punches Son." "Newspaper Editor Allegedly Punches Son." What do you think?

Just an observation...

An AMG keyword search using "Behaving Badly" yields the following thread titles containing that phrase.

The following 'professions' are listed in those titles:
Police
Lawyers
Maine Parents
Town Boards...Select Boards, Zoning Boards, Appeals, etc.
Maine cops
Women
Doctors/Health Care Providers
More Republican Politicians
Legislators - and Everyone Else...Alabama-style

Sure, LMD, that was the idea. There are plenty of "behaving badly" threads on AMG.

When I saw the story, it occurred to me that this was a COC head "acting badly." As far as identifing him as that, rather than as a father, or whatever, well the article identified him as a COC director in the headline. It's because - whoa - it's an interesting feature of the story.

I've been on the board of directors of a COC, and know many current and former COC directors and officers as good friends. I just thought it was a silly thing to post, and I was having fun.

I suppose all the professions represented in the threads you described could also take offense, and post endless indignant outrage at being "singled out."
