Christmas Terrorist Attack In Detroit On Airliner

I was catching up on my Daily Show fix last night, when I watched a show from Feb 9th where Newt Gingrich was his guest. During their conversation, where Newt was talking about President Obama and terrorism relating to this incident, Stewart asked why the "underwear bomber" on the Detroit plane should be treated differently in the courts than "shoe bomber" Richard Reid. To which Newt replied "because Reid was an American citizen".
Which, of course, was not true, as Stewart pointed out at the end of the show. I have looked for some sort of response from Newt but have only found where he said he was thinking of Jose Padilla, who of course, contrary to Newt's apparent wishes, was tried in a US criminal court.
Maybe Newt has figured this out and said so publicly, if so , I haven't seen it.

Spy Chief Rips Handling Of Terror Case
By CAM SIMPSON And EVAN PEREZ
Dennis Blair, the director of national intelligence, told the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Wednesday that officials botched the handling of terror suspect Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who is accused of working with a Yemen-based offshoot of al Qaeda to try to bring down the Detroit-bound jet carrying 290 passengers and crew.
Later in the day, Mr. Blair issued a statement saying his comments were "misconstrued."
An administration official said a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent didn't read Mr. Abdulmutallab his rights as a criminal defendant until after he stopped cooperating.
