Editor's Note: This is an interesting news report citing several "gee whiz" facts about Maine's DEP under the LePage administration.

YORK, Maine — "We issue 6,000 permits each year, for air, plants, water.., waste," she said.
...the key issue for DEP is timeliness in issuing permits. One department was backed up to 2006, ...a committee was formed to have the issue cleared up 100% this year....
...DEP's assistance hotline was relaunched as well as the department's Web site.
"We...had thousands upon thousands...of pages...never viewed," she said. "...now we have more views and page hits."

There are a couple of us who do not see any changes. Had the permits issued dealing with some wetlands, an adjoining property had some issues with same wetlands, all permits revolked. It now has been over two years. All fees have been paid and are still in a holding pattern waiting on DEP, we have had meeting after meeting with them and still not getting anywhere...what else is new. Talk about frustrating. End of rant.
I'll second pmrmsm's response. Same wetlands issues and transportation related topics are worse.
So far the DEP has not backed off from their stated goal of taking hundreds of miles of shore-land property out of productive use. They don't intend to pay the landowners for the values of the investments they made.

Customer friendly DEP? Are they closing it?
Evidently word has not reached the employees that deal with people....

My dealings with DEP staff have been superb since Lepage took office. There is definitely a positive change in both attitude and activity.
