With approval ratings south of 20 percent, Congress isn't exactly acing its performance review -- and one congresswoman thinks it's time the American people started docking members' pay.

Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., last week introduced a bill to cut pay for members of Congress by 5 percent.

It is a start, pretty

It is a start, pretty generous of here to give up 5%, a whole $5000+/- a year. Get rid of all the perks and benefits and maybe they would not be there for life.

According to the article,

According to the article, Congress has never taken a pay cut for the last 77 years. Between the salaries, pensions, health benefits, and perks like expense accounts, haircuts and subsidized cafeterias, I'd say they have it pretty darned good.

If some of the leaders who make upwards of $200K per year (or more) have to give up another 5% every year until they start getting it right, her initiative might give all of them some incentive to do better.

I believe Congress gets

I believe Congress gets automatic pay RAISES unless voted against so how much of her cut is a cut versus a lesser increase ?
