SOS Confirmed He Turned in 4000 valid signatures
Eliot Cutler, an independent candidate for governor, turned in more than 4,000 signatures to the state Friday to become the first unenrolled candidate to qualify for the November ballot.
Cutler, an attorney who worked for U.S. Sen. Ed Muskie and President Jimmy Carter, beat the June 1 deadline to turn in his signatures. He'll face the Democratic and Republican nominees in November.

Corrected headline. Thank you Steven
Two Independents ( Elliot Cutler and Shawn Moody) who have qualified as reported by MPBN:
Two candidates running for governor as independents have so far won spots on the November ballot. Eliot Cutler, a Bangor native and environmental lawyer who served as the Carter administration's top energy advisor, today filed the more than 4,000 signatures required for a spot on the ballot.
Yesterday, Gorham businessman Shawn Moody filed the required signatures, also winning a place on the ballot, says Maine's Deputy Secretary of State Julie Flynn.

Talk about a stealth signature campaign for Shawn Moody. He did this with virtually no press notice.

Paul LePage isn't getting much press either, but his grass roots support is huge.
Roger: Paul LePage gets lots of press compared to a guy whose name has never appeared in any media outlets prior to today. He just has not gotten the amount press you want to see.
Personally, I think for the most part the republican candidates are getting about as much press as the democrat candidates.

By SUSAN M. COVER Kennebec Journal
AUGUSTA - Eliot Cutler of Cape Elizabeth submitted more than 4,000 voters' signatures to the state Friday to become the first independent candidate . . .
Eight other unenrolled candidates have expressed interest . . .
Kevin Scott of Andover . . .
Others are: Daniel Albert, Samme Bailey, Christopher Cambron, Beverly Cooper-Pete, Augustus Edgerton, J. Martin Vachon and John Whitcomb.

Again the press herald is favoring their guy. Although they both filed on the same day, there is no mention of Shawn Moody. Since the SOS takes gubernatorial candidates by appointment, claiming to be first on the same day is a bit disingenuous. We will never know who actually scheduled their appointments when.
I actually think this is really bad reporting by Susan Cover or deliberate snubbing. Other media outlets were well aware that more than one filed and yet he was not even referred in the article.

Steven - It was nice to see you had the first comment to this effect on the PPH website, I'd actually seen the web story and checked the comments. I wonder if there will be a retraction or "correction".
I not expecting one, particularly if the Richardson Story unfolds like the reports here on AMG and on Pine Tree Politics
Moody has a web site address: www.moodygov.com - it's just a park page right now, the site remains under construction.
Cutler, an attorney who worked for President Jimmy Carter
well if that isn't an endearing quality, i don't know what is!
Boston.com is reporting that Kevin Scott (U-Andover) (http://mainesbestchoice.me/home.html) has qualified as well. From his website: "...turned in 4578 signatures from around the State. Honorable mention goes to my Dad who really got out there to help me."
He joins Cutler (U-Cape Elizabeth) and Moody (U-Gorham).
Will J. Martin Vachon make it?
There is a very nice black lady I met at the recent Convention in Portland that was collecting signatures to run as an Independent. I can't remember her name right now. At the time, she told me she had over 2,000, but needed another 2,000. Steven, do you know who I am talking about, and do you know how she is doing?

Your headline in the article is wrong. The "Secretary of State's Office confirmed" his signatures. The Ethics Commission could care less about the signatures.
