Dangerous dogs - where do you stand?

Jim, I don't often agree with the courts but in that case, I do. It is not that all pits or rotties will attack, but it is a fact that they attack at a rate that is unacceptable. And you have to remember that a dog attack is far different than a dog bite.
At one point, I thought that the vicious breeds should be outlawed, but as a conservative, I decided that would be the nanny thing to do. The owners of these breeds should be held liable, both in criminal and civil courts. And I don't care what percent of the dog that attacks is from one of these vicious breeds, 1% - 100% equals the same liability.
In this area, I know of three dog attacks in the past 10 years. One part pit bull killed a family member's dog, one doberman killed a poodle being walked down the road by an old man and his wife and one human attacked and his arm severly injured by a part pit bull. Also, in northern Maine, I have read of two other pit pit bull attacks over the past couple of years, I think that one woman had her arm mangled bad enough that it had to be amputated. On the other hand, I know of no dog attacks in my neck of the woods by golden retrievers, irish sitters, boston terriors, boxers, austrailian shepards, labrador retrievers, saint benards, great danes etc......
If one of my children brought a Pit or a Rottie into their house to live with my grandchildren.... Well, lets just say that I would not be happy about it.

I had an older lab that used to ride on back of my pickup.
Old Gus was laying there one day when a car with a female rotty pulled up.
The owner no more than got inside the coffee shop door when that rotty went through a rear window that was 2/3 of the way down and up onto the truck with Gus.
By the time I got out the door, that thing had Gus by the throat and was chewing away.
I stomped down on it's head and the damn thing finally let go.
Old Gus was so upset that he didn't lay back down for....two, three minutes,
The dreaded AMG Triple Tap.
Raining yet Ugenetoo?
I havn't checked the guage yet, but I'd be surprised if we got an inch.
Winslow dog killed after attack on girl
…shot and killed Sunday after it attacked a 14-month-old girl. The girl and her father were letting their two dogs outside when one of them, a four-year-old black Labrador retriever, bit the girl on the head and wouldn't let go.
The grandfather shot and killed the dog.
The dog had been periodically aggressive toward the girl ever since she learned to walk, and had bitten her once before, about three months ago...

Oh well. Hey, at least he didn't die.
Now, this little fellow is only two:

But what can you do.

How DARE these two "concerned neighbors" suggest that their grandchild has a right to be outside playing. He should be inside.

And THIS boy should never have been riding his bike anyways. Who does he think he is??

Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Judge declares three pitbulls "vicious," rules they must be "disposed of" and cannot return to the neighborhood.
Three Pitbulls Attack Young Boy
Sounds as if the owner of these pit bulls should be "'disposed of,"as well.
Dad's a typical pit bull owner:

"Police said they didn't know why the dog, which had been well behaved during this and previous stays, turned vicious.
'At the moment, we don't know why the dog attacked her,' Ms Corley said."
I do.
Spate of Pit Bull Attacks Has Nation on Alert

The pit bull wars are raging again.
Last week, an 8-month-old boy in San Diego was killed by a pit bull in an apartment he shared with his mother and her roommate. In Milwaukee, a 55-year-old man who was walking his dog suffered serious injuries after a pit bull leaped from a second-story balcony and attacked the dog and the man. And on Wednesday, two dog walkers in Galveston, Texas, were attacked, along with their dogs, by a pack of pit bulls.
Critics say they’re cold-blooded killers, but the breed’s supporters say they’re just misunderstood.
West Bath girl, 5, startles family dogs, suffers ‘significant injuries’ in attack
WEST BATH, Maine — A 5-year-old girl from West Bath was bitten by two family boxer dogs Saturday after she’d been playing with the dogs.
Strout said the dogs were dispatched after the incident by their owner.
"Critics supporters say they're just misunderstood"...............brings to mind all of the "misunderstood youth" out there who have been convicted of murder, rape, etc. etc. etc.
Misunderstood, I say, simply misunderstood....
This one sounds like a Monty Python sketch........those goofy Brits!

And of course, the best part of the article:
"Paul Chaiken, the Bangor attorney representing Beans’ owners, called the incident that led to the lawsuit “an unfortunate accident.”
“The Marquises’ family pet had never shown any aggression towards people,” he said Friday. “The Marquis family had Beans for almost four years [before the incident]. That he bit Ms. Morgan was a surprise to all."
It wasn't a surprise to Beans. He had been waiting for his chance.
Two more sad stories:

(The last victim had several breeds of dogs; they couldn't determine which one killed her. I am going to go out on a limb and guess it was the pit bull).
And one funny one (well, at least nobody died..)

Ah well. What can you do.
The boys grandfather confessed that Copper had once attacked someone before but said that the dog had always been gentle with the baby
The baby must have provoked "Copper" somehow. Strange.
"Passed away" doesn't begin to describe what happened to this innocent child. "Passed away" is what happens if the infant dies in his sleep.

Don't blame the dog....it's just what pit bulls do.
So horrible... prayers for the poor parents of these children. People, watch your dogs, and don't put babies on the floor when a dog is in the room. Ever.
