The Divide

It's big, and getting bigger all the time.

I relate to this. All my neighbors have guns. None of them are potential criminals. I believe liberals see it that way because the only people who own guns in their gun-free cities ARE criminals. That doesn't make it true, it makes them biased.

Good point. But I guess by that same logic that also makes you biased.

The only problem I have with that article is the assertion that republicans were somehow on the side of civil rights.

The real story is that southern white supremacy operated out of the Democratic Party beginning in the nineteenth century, but the party began attracting northern liberals, including African-Americans. Over time the Democratic Party began to support civil rights which drove conservative (and especially southern) whites out, where they realigned with the Republican Party.

On January 8, 1964, Democrat president, LBJ declared "war on poverty".
Democrats have kept the black population as well as many others, on their poverty plantation ever since.

No Claudius, I know that

No Claudius, I know that there are criminals with guns - I don't assume that the entire world reflects my local experience, but they do. That's bias.

I don't believe the "war on

I don't believe the "war on poverty" was ever intended to do anything other than what it has achieved: dependence and debasement. Replace slavery with segregation, when that falls apart replace segregation with dependence. That's why no fix can be tolerated: it's not broken.
