LePage planning a pre-election surprise?
A blogger posts a recording of Gov. LePage saying he's going to call a special session to "push the envelope."

AUGUSTA —...snip
The governor....plans to call a special session before the Nov. 6 elections to "push the envelope," according to ...Mike Tipping.....
LePage made the comments during a Republican-only event in Bangor and someone gave Tipping a recording, he wrote.
.... LePage says he can't disclose... purpose of ...special session or when...He says other Republican states have done it, and the attorney general is reviewing whether "I'm doing it right."

Maybe it's a declaration that Maine will not honor Obamacare.
Maybe it's an Executive Order like the one Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer just issued, denying state benefits and drivers' licenses to illegal aliens applying for the new (illegal) Obama amnesty program.
Maybe it's a move to end state employee unions in Maine.
Maybe it's ALL THREE!!!!
I'm sure, Bazinga. The "LePage Alarm Meter" at every Vested Interest in Maine just shot into the Red Zone.
:)
Heh, kinda fun to watch.
I wish all politicians were like Gov LePage! Not worried about taking risks for the benefit of the people.
Who is the liberal stalking bastard who likes to sneak around making recordings of the governor?
Just another Watergate Wanna-Be, exercising their legal right to be a tosser.
Apollo given the history is it really necessary to sneak around ? More often than not it is a case of just wait around!
This story is breaking all-time "hate" records from liberals. Hilarious.
crack me up...it is so easy to get liberal knickers in a twist...I hope we do get called back in for some fun!
I'll ask the obvious question; if the shoe were on the other foot, would Republicans be okay with this situation from a Democrat Governor?
I bet I know what it is...Olympia Snowe is going to resign before the election. LePage will appoint Charlie Summers to finish her term, and then have a person named to be replacement Secretary of State, which needs to be approved by the legislature.
Why was there no liberal outcry when ObamaCare was shoved down our throats in the last minute way it was?

I don't know, but I'd like to buy him or her a drink sometime.

That's why these types of stories are so tiring. Each party decries what the other does, and then does the same thing saying "well, the other guys do it so why can't we?"
Maybe one day one side or the other will show some spine, and NOT use that excuse.

Here's the thing, Bob. We know it happened under Baldacci, but back then, nobody was able to record the conversation and smuggle it out. Same for King.
Any reasonable person knows that the sliminess of the behind-closed-doors Baldacci regime will never be equaled; not even by fifteen LePage administrations. We just didn't get to read about it in the Pingree Press Herald.

Olympia would never do this. I like the idea ,but it's not going to happen.
I wonder if he knew the recorder was on and he said it to get the dem's in a stew. Listen to all the giggling on the recording....

Short memory Bob? Surely you remember when the Maine Dems cut short the regular legislative session and then called a fake "emergency" session so they could pass a simple majority budget without any Republican support. It was in all of the papers. Oh...and it cost the Maine taxpayers a half million dollars.
Thank you for that reminder, Mainelion. It's a safe bet there were some closed-door "strategery" sessions in Baldacci's office, prior to that occurrence.
Here's a link to a 2004 AMG thread, regarding the special session.
So, if a special session cost 1/2 million $ (which I seriously question) will you all still support this strategy.
Naran keeps saying that Baldacci did the same thing. So, either she is now ok with LePage being like Baldacci, or she is grasping.
This was supposed to be the People before politics administration. His words do not reflect that. If he has a plan, he should release it if he is genuine.
He does not need to call a special session if Olympia were to resign early, he simply has the authority to appoint the replacement. Learn the system if you are going to comment on it.
Any Republican in a close race now has a closer race because this gives the Democrats another issue; a Governor playing politics with his own words betraying his motivation, to make Democrates hate him even more.
This guy is in so way over his head. Is it any wonder that the Republicans only get the Blaine House once every 16 years or more? Don't blame the D's for the failures of the R's. Both parties self inflict, the R's are just more experienced and better at it.
My good friends at the Maine Deomcrat Party have asked me to forward this to all the indoctrinatd here on AMG:
Governor LePage wants to call the legislature into special session before Election Day so he can pass something he says will "put Maine on the right track for the next 10 years."
Union busting? Redistricting? Voter ID laws? Who knows. We know it's so extreme that the governor and attorney general are still wrestling over whether it's constitutional or not.
They're running scared.
LePage made the announcement last night at a private GOP fundraiser and a secret recording was leaked to the media. So much for "people before politics."
While the policy is a mystery, the fact that we are poised to win back the legislature this year is not.
This is nothing more than last-chance power grab.
Enough is enough.

Maine people deserve better. Putting Democrats back in the majority in Augusta is the only way to stop LePage during his final two years in office. Please help us fight back now.
Thank you for your support.
In Solidarity,

Why do you doubt it? Because it is one more example of the wasteful and inefficient bureaucracy? Surely you saw it. It was in all the papers. BTW - I think the Republicans shouldn't waste tax money like this either. Just like I thought LePage hiring his daughter was a colossal blunder.
Putting Democrats back in charge of anything in Maine is a guaranteed road path to Maine regressing into third world socialism. I applaud our governor's ability to put the liberals into a tizzy simply by speaking. No doubt Emergency Rooms in Maine have a surge of heart attack/stroke activity among liberals, democrats and progressives every time LePage puts his words into action.
Here's the link announcing the event, it doesn't sound like it was very private or secretive to me.
THE BANGOR REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE AND THE PENOBSCOT COUNTY GOP INVITE YOU TO JOIN US FOR A MEET AND MINGLE WITH FELLOW REPUBLICANS
Were people required to register in order to attend?
We know it's so extreme that the governor and attorney general are still wrestling over whether it's constitutional or not.
Hope they have some Tylenol around, after that stretch.
What the Governor actually said was that he's working with the AG to make sure he's "doing it right." That could be legality, policy, or protocol. Leave it to the liberals, to assume it has to be about the Maine Constitution.
Must be something else, living through that looking glass.
And now, we pause for a dose of moonbattery:
This guy is in so way over his head. Is it any wonder that the Republicans only get the Blaine House once every 16 years or more? Don't blame the D's for the failures of the R's. Both parties self inflict, the R's are just more experienced and better at it.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled intelligent conversation...right up until further attempts at moonbattery rear their ugly heads.
I guess the libs really are scared.
Love LePage, he is bold. Unfortunately, the Republicans in the legislature don't have the backbone to help him get this through........whatever it is.
Bob, I don' t like it when either side does this. Having said that , the entertainment value is wonderful. To hear the libs say anything about representing all the people is down right laughable. There is not one liberal who has ever represented me. I would not be surprised to find out this is a joke, LePage knowing there was a stalker taping him who would go scurrying away to the MSM as soon as LePage gave him a sound bite.

You're misread my comment, Mainelion. I didn't ask if this had been done before, I asked what the response from the Republicans would be if this was a Democrat governor's action. Sooner or later you have to take the high road and lose the "well it was okay when THEY did it" mentality, otherwise, it's all just political maneuvering and revenge and insults all around and the cycle repeats. I frequent AMG because I like it as a source of news, and there's a lot of interesting stuff brought to the table, discussed, and occasionally beaten to death (and some good humor, of course). But after years of reading what the conservatives on this sight think and believe and feel, I can't say I see a bit of difference in how they approach their political rivals/opponents/opposites when compared to Democrats.
Jon Stewart did a bit on political rhetoric earlier this week, started out by singling out Joe Biden's stupid comments about people being in chains, then went through a video montage of (mostly) FOX News personalities' righteous indignation about our VP's words, and the hateful speech they only seem to hear from Democrats. He next singled out Sarah Palin's comments about the subject, and followed with a video montage of herself engaging in the same sort of "hateful" speech towards Democrats. It was a good example of how both parties sound exactly the same but refuse to hear themselves talking.
If you want to talk to me about a policy, or a law, or about why we should elect this or that person, do it without name calling and insults and over-the-top rhetoric (how many Presidential campaigns have been "the most important in our lifetime" or been all about "rebuilding America"?).
There is little true disagreement w/ what needs to be done and LePage has the fortitude to do it,some wish it was done without the
distractions caused by his approach at times.
