From the link:

“Given the very high cost of living in the Bay Area, and the tight labor market, we make payments in addition to regular salary for the following reasons: signing, performance, retention and departure.”

Eh, that's a fair argument. The cost of living in certain areas are so high that you literally would not be able to fill any positions because nobody would be willing to drive that far to get to work.

Imagine if the government was trying to fill all its positions with sub minimum wage salaries. You'd get people that were even more incompetent than they are now. I'm sorry but I don't want the same kind of guy who screws up my drive through order at McDonald's handling my passport processing.

Or, the college interns managing the database(s) that hold all of our Social Security and Medicare data.

BTW I love the tool, but for the most part the salaries I've seen are pretty in line w/ what I would expect.

Hmmmm.

Hmmmm.

McDonalds effectively deploys human and physical capital to turn first-job teenagers into highly productive employees in a highly-competitive business.

Government hapazardly deploys human and physical capital to turn redundantly educated careerists into rule-bound bureaucrats in an unaccountable conspiracy, whoops, alliance rather, between unions and politicians.

AC imagine if the government

AC imagine if the government actually had to adhere to a budget......the equivalent of a business having a black bottom line.....I’ll wager there would be a whole lot less people needed to get the job done .....
