Let's give credit where credit is due. The paper's work on the DEP/IP fiasco might have brought down a commissioner today.

Remember, we all live downstream!

I was pretty impressed with it. Fair treatment of the issues in the story.

They let the environmentalist wackos at NRCM write their copy. They attakced two public servants for doing their jobs. No kudos here.

I must have seen only part of the story when I went to sunjournal.com. I saw about four paragraphs of very unremarkable reporting. That was it. Do you have a URL?

DEP chief resigns

By Bonnie Washuk, Staff Writer
Friday, December 23,2005
AUGUSTA - Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Dawn Gallagher resigned Thursday amid questions about how the department is run.

The announcement was made by Gov. John Baldacci, who praised Gallagher as a valuable public servant but said he wanted a change.

"Commissioner Gallagher, who has been a strong leader at DEP for three years, agrees with me that recent departmental decisions could have been handled differently," the governor said in a statement. "These recent departmental decisions created adverse public reaction. This does not reflect my administration's priority to always work for Maine people in the most accessible, consistent and open way possible."
