Andre:

On Weds evening November 11 our little dog Reagan disappeared from our back yard. Thursday afternoon he was spotted at St. Mary's Church some 6 miles from our home. He was also seen on Elm Street W, Elm Street E that afternoon. Friday morning he was spotted between Dewey Street and Main Road North behind homes near the Hardware Store. Reagan is a maltese/toy poodle mix. He weighs about 12 pounds and stands about 14 inches high. He has curly dark brown and light brown hair and a long tail. His ears hang down. He is pretty shy of people but after three nights in the woods he must be starved and might just come in for a bite.

As you can imagine we have been worried out of our minds. We have spent the last two days and nights in the woods searching for him. I know you have an incredible e-mail list and I am asking you to send this out. The nights are so cold right now and I don't think he'll last long enough for me to get fliers everywhere. Reports of any sightings would be very helpful. Dave's number is 356-0121. Mine is 461-1662. Home is 862-6011.

That's sad. You should include a photo of the mutt to help people identify him.

Reagan is still missing. We had no sightings since Friday morning but two late this afternoon. He was seen at 217 Main Road North in Hampden. Our business is located at 589 Main Road North. Who knows,..maybe he's headed to work Many thanks to Andre Cushing and Jeni Llloyd for running right out to join my family at the drop of a hat. I will be out first thing in the morning. . The phone call came from a lady in Winterport who noticed the poster at the Hampden Post Office right after seeing him cross the road I am touched by the outpouring of support and concern from friends and strangers. I'm headed to bed with new hope tonight. The upside is this little guy is tougher than I imagined. The gentleman who saw him last said he looked so confused. I can only imagine what he's thinking but he's not giving up and neither are we. Thank you for your good thoughts and prayers.

We have a little maltese who is really hoping that his half-brother makes it home safely. They're tough little guys!

Just back from a 12 hour day searching for the little guy. I handed out over 100 fliers to schoolbus drivers, oil delivery men ups drivers, carpenters, mechanics, and put them in doors along Main Road North. At 2:30 a call came in that he was almost to Bangor on a road that runs parallel to Main Road North. Spent til 7:00 out that way and stopped by the local store out there only to find out he's back on Main Road North. He was described as "blowing past the garage at 100 mph". Whatever he's running on I need it. Got myself pulled over for going too slow but the nice officer said "oh, you're still looking for your dog, half of Hampden is looking too". Now if someone could just get him to stand still. I am so impressed with the many people who are helping Thank you for your good wishes and prayers.

Good luck, Deb. Put a dog food bowl every 100 feet along Main Road and wait for him to come to you!

Hey all: No new sightings. None actually since Tues night. Weds' sighting was a false report. Not sure even where to look today. But if we do see him people have called to say they can be available for an all out effort. I have five more telephone numbers than I did on Wedsnesday. R & K Market and Irving in Hampden are Reagan Search Headquarters with clerks giving out updates and collecting info. I am amazed at how many people are now actively looking for Reagan. I'm trying to remain hopeful. Last night I actually dreamed I saw him and scooped him right up. Very vivid dream. I'm praying for the reality. Thanks for following the saga!

I know it may sound like a stupid question, but have you checked the shelters. Dogs can travel a great distance.

Have checked shelters and Humane Society. Theyr'e all on notice. Every school bus driver has a poster, postal carriers, ups guy, Bangor Hydro, the BAT driver for Hampden, Webber Oil trucks. Flyers at businesses, post office, telephone poles (shhhh!) Door to door over 150 doors. Veterinarians too. He's on facebook, AMG, and Rep Cushing's amazing e-mail list. There is an ad in the Bangor Daily News and I am contemplating a radio ad campaign on WVOM.

You wouldn't believe how well campaign tips cross over into lost pet searches. Now I know why I developed the whole process over the years!

This afternoon I will be walking Chandler our yellow lab up and down Main Road North returning repeatedly to our company at PDQ Door where we have a have a heart trap set up with food and his blankie. The hope is he will stumble over Chandler's scent and follow it to the trap. Beef stew is the bait. Updates later.

Having just lost our little girl dog after 14 wonderful years of her company I know how the Plowman family must feel. This little dog of ours was lost in the woods in late March many years ago after being attacked by a large hawk, but she turned up in a neighbor's yard about a mile and a half away through the woods. Robert's suggestion is very good, but I'm sure they've already called all the animal shelters as well as veterinarians.. Contacting local schools and asking that an announcement be made can often help since kids are out in yards and may see the dog. If there are rural mail carriers they might be notified as well. These are all methods we used and we finally found our little girl 4 days after she became lost. Hope your dog returns to you safe and sound.

Debra - best of luck in all your searching. Sounds as if you've done all that can be done, and are continuing to do the same.

Meanwhile, the utility companies take a less dim view of flyers being posted if you use tape instead of staples. It's the staples and nails they object to the most, as those can rip the workers' protective gear and cause injury and electrocution as a result.

I am distressed to report that we have had no sightings of our dog Reagan since last Tuesday. We had people searching all weekend but we really don't know where to look now. Pictures remain up and it seems everyone we approach knows he is missing. My sister sent me a story from the Lewiston Sun about a dog in Leeds missing for 51 days being returned to its owner after being hit by a car. For now we have had to return to the other things we neglected for so long. I remain hopeful but very sad.

Debra... I have resisted posting this because I didn't want to raise your hopes needlessly. But it is a true story.

A neighbor of mine lost his trusted dog, "Rusty." He was an older dog and the neighbor searched the neighborhood and surrounds for days to no avail. The neighborhood was located in Lewiston, near the Ramada Inn.

After a while, we gave up and figured Rusty had gone off into the woods and passed or was hit by a car.

To ease the pain the family was feeling, I painted a portrait of Rusty from a photo that the neighbor shared with me. The portrait was much appreciated.

ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER, the neighbor, who operated a wrecker service, was on a call in Lisbon, about 6 or 7 miles from our neighborhood. Rusty walked out of the woods near the accident and went to the neighbor. I swear to God that this happened. How he got to Lisbon Falls, how he survived for 6 months, how he found the neighbor, we'll never know. It truly was magical.

Rusty passed a bit later but died with his family....a happy dog.

So, don't give up hope. You never know.

Bob, you continue to be a sweetheart in my mind. I have definitely had a hard time this past week as we pass our 2 week mark without our Reagan and our 8th day without news. Another family in Hampden just located their two missing dogs who were found quite quickly but "adopted" by their finders. Eventually the dogs were returned to their owners. Please if you find a stray dog don't assume they are unwanted. We very much want our Reagan back. We love and care for him like a child. He may be cute and cuddly but he belongs to us! Reagan has been my constant buddy for 6 years. He has a bad back leg but doesn't let it slow him down. It just means it takes him 4 or 5 attempts to jump up on the couch to snuggle with me. Every night as I lay in bed listening to the wind or rain I wonder where he is sheltering. He used to sleep at the bottom of the bed. I know he loves trash so I figure he's gotten into a few trash bags to forage. I had just groomed him and he looked so handsome but I can only imagine how ragged he looks right now. But mostly I fear he thinks we're not looking for him. My upbringing has taught me that hard work yields results. I am used to beating my head against the wall in Augusta but know that the numbers determine the outcome. It just doesn't equate that we all (friends and family, neighbors and strangers) have worked so long and hard to find this little guy and we cannot. We have not given up! We got this little guy so young and he has a family, a huge yellow lab who is moping around without him and a cat who just doesn't know who to tease these days. I'll be out cruising Hampden and Bangor again tomorrow looking for my buddy. Thank you all for your kind words and prayers.
