State Rep Deb Sanderson

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I would like to extend my sincere thanks for the opportunity to serve you in the 125th Legislature. The last two years have been an amazing experience and it's has been an honor to represent you in Augusta.

After careful consideration and consultation with my family, I have decided to run for re-election for District 52 and I hope I have your support again this year.

Maine has been facing some tough economic challenges in the last few years. This past session has offered the first glimmer of of relief in a long time. LD 1 contained reform to remove burdensome regulations that hindered, rather than encouraged our local businesses. We passed the largest tax decrease in the history of Maine for ALL Maine citizens; moving 70,000 low income citizens off the tax rolls and brought the standard deduction inline with the federal deduction to offer middle income families relief.

In addition, we were able to address significant welfare reform, health insurance reform and pension reform for the state employee retirement system, saving Maine tax payers 1.4 billion dollars while ensuring that their retirement will be there when they need it.

Some decisions we faced were harder than others. Closing a $200+ Million dollar shortfall within the Department of Health and Human services necessarily meant that the programs we offer needed to be overhauled however, these decision's needed to be made carefully. We were able to bring several of our programs back in line with the national average and minimize the impact to the folks who rely on services such as our seniors, children and people with disabilities.

After making reductions to tax payer funded programs, I felt it would be disingenuous to accept tax payer funds (aka, Clean Election funds) to finance my campaign this year. Instead, I have chosen to run as a "traditional" candidate and manage my campaign with voluntary donations.

Under Maine law, anonymous donations are allowable under $50.00. The maximum donation for a House seat race is $350.00. For donations of $50.00 or more, your name, address and employer are necessary. NO donation is too small!!

Also, volunteers are WELCOME!! If you would like to help place a lawn sign, write a letter of support, provide a comment for a mailer and/or help with door to door literature drops, please contact me at 376-7515 or via e-mail at deb.sanderson@hotmail.com .
