Editor’s Note: The Brookings Institution predicts a 0.5 percent net job loss. The Heritage Foundation said net job losses would top 1.1 million. The Coalition for Affordable American Energy puts the net job loss at 3 million.

Energy job losers could get windfall

Workers who lose jobs if the pending climate change legislation becomes law could get a weekly paycheck for up to three years, subsidies to find new work/other generous benefits -- courtesy of Uncle Sam.
Laid-off workers would have to file a claim with state government, which will manage the unemployment program, as well as the federal government.
Displaced workers would also be eligible to receive health insurance, government footing 80 percent of the bill.
