If I Didn't Know Any Better ....

I've mentioned on these boards before that I'm not much of a TV watcher. I have Netflix hooked up to a Wii. But, otherwise, my family doesn't have cable TV or real-time streaming broadcasts.
However, I do keep up with the news through probably a dozen or two sources to try to get 'the big picture'. It's pretty obvious that we're in "election season mode" and pretty much what the "issues" are.
Now, having said that, I was at the gym tonight, on a treadmill (which is rare), and I'm watching the news (I think NBC), and if I didn't know any better, I'd think that "abortion" is the number one issue in this election.
I get that this Aker (sp?) dude showed some dumbassery, and it's just the distraction Dems are looking for, but, man, how blatently obvious can the media be running with this making such an effort to link some dumbass with GOP and making this election about abortion rather than the economy?
I know millions of people *only* get their news from this source (or similar). It's no wonder so many are blind to reality.
" and if I didn't know any better"
Well, Punk. You do know better. Let's hope the 23 million un-employeed know it too.
Punk you are right about one thing: the lamestream media have dropped any pretenses which they used to have. It's all out in the open now. They are not afraid or ashamed to show their true colors openly anymore.
And the biggest leader on the war on women is the abuser Bill Clinton, followed by the murderer Ted Kennedy.
I think it is time to fight back against the biased, Marxist, mendacious, lying media. I have been picking up a PPH in the morning where I stop for breakfast every day and hate to give them money but...besides the BDN and the NYT, there are no others available. Still, I like to read issues, obits, police and local news. What we are starting to do is to buy one paper and pass it around to others who would otherwise buy it. So far, 6 people no longer buy the paper but can read the sections the want. After that it can be used for what it is worth...bottom of bird cage or puppy house training.
The newspaper circulation is declining but Conservative can really make a point. STOP buying these papers which are trying to collectivize America and destroy or way of life.
Survival requires the media to continue to cater to the lowest common denominator's base instincts and the politicians and educators make sure that their niumbers will continue to increase.
The media is covering the issue because major candidates from across the country- including Romney- are asking Akin to retire from the race. This is in addition to the political pundits, like Rush Limbaugh, who are also asking him to step down. Akin's remarks have also led to the exposure of a plank in the Republican platform that calls for a Constitutional amendment that woud ban all abortions - even in the case of rape or incest - a position that most Americans find extreme. That's news. It's also easier to understand than economic policy.
I disagree, David, the media decides which is news. The Democrats have been demanding this guy resign, but you didn't see that in the MSM. This is a media driven issue.
So now everytime I look at the media now I see Sandra Fluck, the hero of the Democrats because she demanded for female law students $5,000 of government-provided contraceptives to be able to graduate from law school. Good Lord, this woman is their poster child?
That is why the Demorats want to stop unlimited campaign contributions. If the GOP can't put on paid political ads the dens. will own the airwaves under the guise of news. SAVOO
Tom, You seem to think that the "media" is some monolithic entity. This issue has been reported heavily by conservative-leaning and liberal-leaning news outlets. So has the news about Democrats calling for his resignation. However, Democrats calling for an Rs resignation is certainly not as newsworthy as Rs trying to oust one of their own. This issue is especially newsworthy because it could determine who is in charge of the Senate, and may even impact the presidential race.
Watch for the ads by the Ds in the coming months quoting Akin and tying him to Ryan.
They could always report on this wacko instead. Republicans got just as many as the Democrats do.
