John Richardson: Viva Fidel!

Another sickening turn in the story...this is like...I had to go to hell and visit with the Devil himself because otherwise my 20 million trade deal would fall apart.

The Maine Democrats are such prostitutes...they would sell their soul for more tax revenue...

List of successes by the Maine Democratic Party in 2005!

1. Raised taxes
2. Raised health insurance premiums
3. Met with Fidel Castro

The Maine Republican leadership should take a trip to Iraq and visit Maine Soliders..

Would be more American than going to Cuba..

Don't they realize they were used as pawns by a Dictator.....are they self-aware at all...

Castro gets food out of the deal, lots of good press by the commie-fans in the Maine papers, defying the embargo, lots of impressed prostitute politicians and he gets to show the world once again that he is still holding on with a tight fist to his own little island workers paradise...another opportunity to make his enemies look foolish.

Castro gave up nothing and gained so much....

Oh, Juan Reeethard-sooon and Juan Baldero knew exactly what they were doing...

Do you really think they are interested in business...ha,ha,ha....

have they been known as particularly business-friendly in the past?

or aren't they in reality Castro-friendly...as when Juan Reeeethard-soooon praised Castro for the trade deal....

The embargo on agriculture product was lifted and at least 5 other Governors have started trade with Cuba. Why do people have a problem with this. Getting our products sold with cash up front deals seems like something the Republican business men wanted. Refer to the UN voting thread and see how much we waste with countries there. This is bringing in revenue and you complain.
You want him to start doing something to help Maine, when he does people bash him for it. What has either party brought in to help Maine lately.
Damn why am I having to defend him. I am working to defeat him in '06.
Give credit where it is do.

Military Man...I may be a free-trade, capitalist rightwinger but I also have principles...I don't care what other Governors do...I don't even care if they are Republicans or Democrats. If you have any concept of what the Cuban people have been through, you cannot favor this approach.

Aren't there any other country's that we can trade our food with than Fidel Castro...this man is a villain and a sworn enemy of the United States. He is close to our mainland and will readily make friends with any enemy of the US. He was going to allow the Soviets to park nukes there..don't think he isn't courting Islamofascists and other commies in South America. He is not some poor guy that wants to trade with us but we the big bad bully won't make it happen. He is a nut case.

I know people that lost everything under Castro...lost family members...look at the people who risk their lives daily to escape his tyranny...and we are supposed to get all happy over 20 million in potato sales...There were easier ways for our Governor to increase economic prosperity in this state than to sell out to a tyrant.

Rightwingwoman has it right. At some point principal has to rule or you might as well stand for nothing. Castro is all she claims and more. He has terrorized his own people, murdered those opposed to him, stole from those that have somethng, is as evil as evil can be. It was not the place for our governor to be. Should Bush go to China, I personally think he is wrong to do so. However, foreign policy is for Bush to carry out. Did it help for Nixion to go to China? At that time dividing the Soviet Union and China was likely a good idea, but it didn't help the kids in the Peking Square 15 years later. Business wants us to do anything to promote their interests, most of them care little about human rights. Just look at them leaving the U.S. and going abroad to find people that will work for nothing. Business interests can be addressed without granting creditabilty to the likes of Castro. Embargos rarly work and usually only hurt the little people, Castro and his thugs will have plenty to eat everynight regardless of embargos.

I remember twenty or so years ago, a communist turned in election petitions to run for office during one of Maine's election cycles. The fools in Augusta simply yawned until the late Rep. Louis Jalbert of Lewiston chanlenged to whole thing. He went on the offensive and the petitions were full of errors and the candidate was not allowed on the ballot. Not many in Augusta today like that.

So we shouldn't do business with this country because it is communist. But lets do business with all of South American where there is just as much repression, tyranny and corruption with full free trade. Countries that are partners with Castro.
We shouldn't be is the Middle East because many are no better than Saddam. But that is also alright because they aren't communist. Your reasoning is flawed then.
I have been to many of this countries and seen just as many human rights violation as Cuba yet you done seem to mind us doing business there.
Like Sam said the embargo didn't work so why keep it up. Do you think we should close our borders to all countries that aren't a Democracy and only deal with those that do what we do.
You need to stop doing business with over half of the UN countries.
I also remember hiding under my desk for nuke drills. I also know people that lost everything do to not fault of their own in other countries and here in the US. Lets not send goods there and make it even harder for them to get food and wood products because of lack of goods. Ya that is going to send Castro and countryman a message.
