Note the narrative posturing in the Sussman dailies, and no doubt elsewhere: others are hoping to "upset" King in the general election, etc.
Snowe's financial backing and her husband, former Gov. John McKernan, could help Summers, who hopes to upset independent Angus King in November.
'Presumptive winner' as well; just exactly how they anointed Johnny Meatballs right after he announced.

Seriously? The man kills eagles for a living.
That squinty eyed look of his always makes me think he's in the process of laying a square egg.
This is a unique trait of the ooh-ahh bird.
Once again Mel , superior observation and analysis of the highest order!
Agreed, Bruce.

Truth Test: Statement on King's budget woes true but missing context
By Michael Shepherd mshepherd@mainetoday.com
Staff Writer
"In 2000, Angus King had a budget surplus of over $300 million, but he left office with a $1 billion shortfall." – Statement from National Republican Senatorial Committee on Republican, Democratic Senate primary wins in Maine
Expect to see these numbers again as we push toward November and Republicans try to portray King as a fiscal liberal and a closet Democrat. The national Republican group's figures are rounded but fair, but the statement lacks important situational context.

Group calls on candidate Summers to resign state post
King's crew must be seriously nervous about Summers. When the Maine People's Alliance starts agitating over "election fairness" concerns, we know they're anticipating a hard fight.
lol
Existing law (and the SOS departmental structure) contains provisions for such situations, and there are no valid concerns about Summers continuing to hold the SOS position while campaigning for the US Senate.

ANGUS KING'S SUPERPAC HYPOCRISY
King pushes opponents to disavow outside money while his friend funnels $650,000 to Democrat SuperPAC
AUGUSTA - Unenrolled Senate candidate Angus King has been caught red-handed in a pattern of brazen hypocrisy, condemning the influence of money in politics while his friends funnel hundreds of thousands to a Democrat SuperPAC.
According to Reuters, King's close personal friend, hedge fund billionaire Donald Sussman, has donated $650,000 to a PAC aimed at attacking Republican candidates. King and Sussman are close personal friends and vacation together in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
House Majority PAC, a "Super PAC" aimed at helping elect Democrats to the U.S. House of Representatives, raised $1.1 million in the past six weeks, according to disclosure documents released on Thursday.
Texas personal injury lawyer Amber Anderson gave $500,000 and hedge fund manager Donald Sussman doubled his earlier donation of $250,000, bringing his total donations to the group to $650,000.

Just last week, King attempted a campaign stunt to get his opponents to disavow superPAC support. Saying PAC money "distorts the political process", King failed to admit he was the only candidate that had thus far been the beneficiary of such funding.
According to the Bangor Daily News, "King already has benefited from nearly $24,000 super-PAC money from a group called icPurple Inc., which produced an online advertisement supporting him, according to campaign finance reports."
King's latest campaign finance report on file with the Federal Election Commission also shows he took in $8,000 in contributions from political action committees. Of that amount, $5,000 came from Google's political action committee Google NetPAC.
King also received $1,000 from timber giant Plum Creek's Good Government Fund; $1,165 from the Council for a Livable World Candidate Fund, a group that supports mostly Democrats and favors "reducing the danger of nuclear weapons"; and $500 from Politics 180, a Massachusetts-based political action committee that says it wants to "tone down the partisanship in politics." "Angus King is saying one thing and doing another," said Maine GOP Chairman Charlie Webster. "While condemning others for receiving outside support, he is taking it directly himself. Worse still, his friends are preparing to support him by funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars into superPACs. The people of Maine deserve straight talk from candidates, but Angus King is clearly working the same Washington DC politics that the people of Maine have grown tired of."

The trademark squint:

Maybe it's a 'tell;' his moral compass sends a shock to his face every-time he claims to be an independent.
Melvin, I think you are on to something, every time I see Angus squint your comment will come to mind!
The "Squint" Gives a Hint.
Squintus King?
Starting to like it. Heyngus....squint for us!
Yes.

If Angus King wins the Senate race, will he commute to Washington, D.C. in his brand-new Mercedes Benz RV? It would be wasteful to leave the custom-built $130,000 24-footer in his Brunswick dooryard. ...maybe King intends to use the rig as a campaign bus, though the image of a suit-wearing millionaire stepping out of a luxury RV runs counter to the populist pose the former Governor is trying to cultivate.

Cynthia Dill challenges King on campaign funds
Published 'Thursday, June 21st, 2012 at 3:02 pm
Democrat’s detailed plan seeks limits on personal campaign cash, big donors
PORTLAND — State Sen. Cynthia Dill.., the leading vote getter in last week’s primary election, said campaigns funded by wealthy interests are warping democracy. But she said King’s proposal that candidates spurn SuperPAC money was not a comprehensive solution, nor did it address King’s own heavy use of “dark money” and personal wealth.
“You are currently the only candidate benefitting from a SuperPAC,” she noted.

Lovefest no more: Woods goes after King
By DAVID SHARP
Associated Press
FALMOUTH, Maine (AP) -- U.S. Senate candidate Steve Woods ...went on ...offensive against...King, saying ... former governor ... political insider ... surrounded...by politicians and political insiders... wrong candidate to solve the problems plaguing national politics.
The nine Republicans, Democrats and independents appointed to serve as King's state chairs collectively represent 800 years of public service...
"I don't think that the problems that we're facing can be solved by looking into the past. The problems that we're facing have to put in the context of the future," he said.

"I don't think there's any chance in the universe that Angus King would caucus with Republicans. He'd have to be kidnapped by aliens and be tortured to say, `Yes, I'm caucusing with the Republicans,'" Woods said.

King Filed THe Small Interprise Growth Fund into Law, which says this:
10 §390. CONFLICTS OF INTEREST
Notwithstanding Title 5, section 18, subsection 1, paragraph B, each member of the board, and each employee, contractor, agent or other representative of the board is deemed an "executive employee" solely for purposes of Title 5, section 18, and for no other purpose. Title 17, section 3104 does not apply to any of those representatives. If a member does not participate in an action or deliberation with respect to a particular project, that member is presumed not to have personally and substantially participated in a decision of the board with respect to that project. Every interest of a board member in any matter before the board must bedisclosed to the board in writing. [1995, c. 699, §3 (NEW).]
Title 17, section 3104
3104. Conflicts of interest; purchases by the State
No trustee, superintendent, treasurer or other person holding a place of trust in any state office or public institution of the State shall be pecuniarily interested directly or indirectly in any contracts made in behalf of the State or of the institution in which he holds such place of trust, and any contract made in violation hereof is void. This section shall not apply to purchases of the State by the Governor under authority of Title 1, section 814. [1975, c. 771, §164 (AMD).]
Now I wonder why they would write into a law that the board members and other representatives of a state investment corporation are exempt from a statute that says government employees cannot enrich themselves through the offices they hold?
Especially since the charter for the Finance Authority Of Maine has already told us that the people working for state financial programs are saints working for the public good and any benefit they derive from their positions is only incidental to the public good that these saints serve?
"The authority will serve a public purpose and perform an essential governmental function in the exercise of the powers and duties conferred upon it by this chapter. Any benefits accruing to private individuals or associations, as a result of the activities of the authority, are deemed by the Legislature to be incidental to the public purposes to be achieved by the implementation of this chapter. [1985, c. 344, §5 (AMD).] [1985, c. 344, §5 (AMD).] From the charter for the Finance Authority of Maine.
If I had entertained ANY doubts about King being a democrat, those doubts would have been dashed by the turnout of the democrat machine for the celebration up in Houlton yesterday.
Mike Carpenter and nearly every other big wheel in the D party in Houlton had on Angus stickers and tshirts as well as marching in the parade, pressing the flesh for their dear King.
In this case, the King truly doth have no "clothes."

Today I had the experience of listening to two AK volunteers in line at a popular hot dog stand in Brunswick.
I hope I can convey what I saw and heard.
Both were young early college age males. They had on the requisite blue shirts and khaki pants, First the most interesting part of their talk was one telling how he had ten letters to the editors he had to write. The other said"in your name"? "NO, I am ghost writing them "! The other said he had to also but didn't feel he had enough experience to do so and talk about anything.
The letter writer then explained how he was asked about staying on until November but had to remind whoever that he had to return to college, but he said he would be back for Novenber ,just to attend the election night party and how much fun that is going to be.
The highlight of this conversation was when one volunteer noticed a third volunteer walking to a park bench w/ a female companion, and proceeded to, in a poorly hushed tone, to describe his carnal desires to the other person!!!
They seemed to be perfect for the role. Looked good ,charming and full of nothing but themselves.
Probably the best part of this was watching Mrs. L. in our car w/ a direct view of me ,the volunteers' w/sticjkers / name tags in front of me,knowing that I might just not be able to contain my feelings for Anguish!!
Oh, boy -- ghost writing letters, ay? Were these paid minions, or just some suckers being promised a job in the wind industry?
Good job keeping quiet, Bruce. I imagine some Bactine will take care of the newest hole in your lip.
Naran I think just volunteers.
I am proud of myself it could have been a real social no no!
You handled it in just the right way, Bruce.

I can't say I feel bad for Ms. Dill. I don't think she is so far removed she thinks she will win. I think perhaps Ms. Dill and Angish have communicated.
