Senator Katz (R-Augusta) has written An Act To Allow Municipalities To Restrict the Possession of Firearms in Certain Circumstances. The bill summary states:

This bill provides a municipal legislative body with the authority to adopt an ordinance that restricts the carrying of firearms in the municipality's essential municipal offices and places of legislative assembly just as the State imposes those restrictions in its capitol area.

LD 578

So, in effect, is he opening the door for municipalities to enact stronger anti-gun laws than enacted by the Legislature.

Couple this with the "gang of 8" letter, and I'm starting to become convinced that it's time for Katz to go, and I don't give a rat's behind how many years he and his father have served.

I too am less than impressed with Mr. Katz's positions thus far! I was at the Public hearing, He introduced the bill for the Maine Municipal Assoc. Roger didn't even stick around to hear any of the testimony. The Governors office had Mr. Billings there to testify in Opposition of this piece of Legislation.

Dead Bill thanks to Rep. Cebra. BTW, Sen. Katz had a VERY compelling testimony IN FAVOR of LD35 and I think he helped a few people to understand what the danger of being disarmed.
