Lefty States are Bankrupt

It seems that several States in America owe more money than they will ever be able to pay. Most of it in States governed by Leftist/Socialist Democrats. Taxes will have to increase and/or government pensions decreased. Raising taxes will cause a greater exodus from these States than they are now seeing which will make this financial debacle even worse.

Connecticut $53.000,000,000 in debt
Illinois $30,000,000,000 in debt
New York $356,000,000,000 in debt
New Jersey $104,000,000,000 in debt
California $428,000,000,000 in debt

Does anyone think that the lesson here about Democrats' complete inability to govern and the utter failure of Socialist financial policies will be learned? Me neither.

IOU but no can pay

The problem is with the

The problem is with the Democrats' use of government. Since Andrew Jackson Democrats have used government to give out favors to friends (the "spoils system".)

Also, in order to keep unions on their side, they have given the unions unfair advantages, which, if left uncontrolled, result in costly infrastructure programs and hurt private enterprise. The decline of the Rust Belt is evidence of that.

In order to assure the support of the growing class of government workers Democrats have beefed up the pension promises to government workers, essentially promising now what will be delivered later, whether or not affordable. They hope for a US bailout later to pay for a system they know is unsustainable - demanding "fairness and promises kept." I don't remember making those promises, but for some reason I'll be required to pay for them.

In order to get the votes from the inner cities, welfare and giveaways (at the cost to the taxpayer,) grow and grow.

It's a system that's bound to fail.

Hey Jack...what is your point

Hey Jack...what is your point? Are you saying its just fine to have our Democratic States go bankrupt because the Federal government is going bankrupt. This is about the States not Federal government and your attempt to change the nature of the discussion is futile. Our Federal deficit is horrible I agree but that is a topic for another discussion. BTW, the House is not controlled by Republicans. They may have a majority but you have seen how the Democrats control things by simply saying NO.

Swamp fever knows no party

Swamp fever knows no party lines.

I sometimes say that liberals believe government is the highest expression of our humanity, while conservatives believe liberty is the highest form of expression of our humanity.

Note I did not use party names. It is instead a comment about an individual's "world view" and their place in it.

There are numerous ways of simplifying it....makers v. takers, etc.

One of my favorites was the theme of a Grover Norquist book. He describes our nation as made up of a "takings coalition" and a "leave us alone coalition." That works for me most of the time.

And always remember: "Nobody spends other people's money as carefully as they spend their own."

Swamp fever knows no party lines.

Many of the same "Republicans" who dutifully recite the red meat sound bites around election time are in cahoots with the Democrats to keep the gravy train going. They are threatened by Trump, and so have been resisting, and even vocally opposing him at every turn.

They can't keep up the lies forever. That dam will break at some point.

Government everywhere is

Government everywhere is running out of other peoples' money. There's an ongoing and increasingly desperate political showdown between the interests of "Big Government" and the interests of "Leave Me Alone" as government's ability to pay its adherents shrivels.

The is the political faultline of our age.

What amazes me is the DNC

What amazes me is the DNC tilt into progressive... er, socialist... maybe even communist... at a moment like this.

All the money is spent, but the progressives prattle on as if there's piles of money waiting for their wonderful socialist disneyland to spend.

They demand my support, but I can't figure out how in the world they intend to achieve any of their goals.

I keep seeing a very large Venezuela...
