As unreal as it is, this appears to be the larval stage of Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Les Otten's campaign website:
otten.jpg

Here's the link, though I'm sure it will be pulled down as soon as his people see this post:
http://lesotten.com/test

This is done by the Ursus group or Insyt Media, their links are at the bottom.

Not only is this the stupidest thing a Republican has ever done online in Maine, it is probably a cut and dry case of copyright infringement.

Les Otten will be a national laughing stock after this.

Except for the fact that Otten's logo looks disturbingly like Obama's, what's the problem?

Question: I would think that Les would actually get more positive press and a big bump coming out as an "I" and not an "R" - don't ya think?

I think you're getting excited over nothing. The website obviously isn't ready to go "live", and it's common when designing websites to use "placeholders" until you've decided on what logo and/or content to put in. Take a breath.

larval stage indeed.

Very appropriate.

Here's a handy motto for their campaign: How About "Less of Les Otten"?

MT is right, as usual. Besides, if you look really closely at the Otten '0-Ten logo, it has a subliminally embedded logo-in-a-logo that promises to
Reuse logos;
Reduce Hope;
Recycle Change

Well, Republicans are off too their usual losing start. A Republican announces his candidacy for Governor and immediately other Republicans start trashing him. Apparently Ronald Reagan's axiom never stuck with this crowd.

In The Middle -

Are you familiar with the purpose of primary campaigns? Or have we reached the point where it is acceptable only to say all Republican primary candidates are equal?

Best,
skf

I was not even the slightest bit excited to see that Otten was running. I hope this puts the premature nail in his political coffin.

The Ursus people should be ashamed of themselves, and seriously should consider consulting an attorney sooner rather than later. This is the most egregious ripoff of a campaign's marketing materials I've ever seen.

I don't know much about Les Otten, but he obviously approved this nonsense. What a stupid, cheap ploy.
And does he really think he's going to win a GOP primary using Obama's website?

Dean Scontras's ripoff of the Pepsi logo was pretty bad, but this takes the cake. Otten has even copied the glow around the logo. He's copied the fonts. He's copied the page structure and background colors. He's copied the terminology and he's even copied the ludicrous 'stare into the distance' photo.

Everyone associated with this production should be shamed out of politics. What stupid, stupid thing to do.

Well I know he's fully qualified to be gov. 39!
He bankrupted a skiing company ,gov. 38 bankrupted a state , that gives him a leg up I ques!
Granted it is a wooden hollow one!
At this point at least he isn't an incumbent and been part of the last eight years of bipartisanship and cooperation !
Let's get other things out of the way!
Has he ever been a teacher?
Coached a team?
Is he a nice guy?
Does he loath public employees?

Meh. So there are some similarities in the website. Big deal.

All due respect, woodman, but directing us to an inactive page when there's a (minimal but real) website up seems sorta pot-kettle-black.

Nor does the fact that his (overly busy, IMO) logo has some distant similarities to Obama's bother me much. Obama's logo implies the sun rising over the American flag. Otten's implies the ocean and the mountains.

How many freakin' politicians have run on a platform of "change?" Any issues with trademark violation that?

FWIW, Otten doesn't have my vote, either.

Right now, there is no room in the MaineGOP for another Obama-loving RINO that wants to rip off "The Great One's" logo and likeness. We have enough of those RINOS running the zoo called the MaineGOP.

Editor - One can run for office without running down the opposition, especially if it's gratuitous critcism and not issue oriented.

Bearing in mind that Obama's logo incorporates the red stripes of our American flag, I have Googled "blue stripes flag" and determined that Otten is running for governor of Uruguay.

Software is readily available so that, for your convenience, you can look at a web site while you are off-line. How can it do that? IT COPIES THE ENTIRE SITE! Of course it comes with the same warning that's on a DVD copying machine: You may make copies for your personal use only. Right.

Then load the copy into site construction software, make a few cosmetic changes, and post it as your own. Internet crooks do this all the time to make an official looking site as quickly and as cheaply as possible. That's what crooks do.

Politicians? Nah, couldn't be.

9 hopefuls for top job in Maine
More likely to test Blaine House waters

AUGUSTA, Maine — [Les] Otten announced Monday the formation of an exploratory committee to run on the Republican ticket.

“I think I’m uniquely qualified to give Maine some vision,” Otten said... “I have held every job in small business, from cleaning bathrooms to welding broken pipes to sitting in the board room.”

“I’m definitely interested and I’m working on putting a campaign together,” [Sen. Peter] Mills said.

MAINE. Just a snide aside ... but compare the new campaign logo of Republican gubernatorial candidate and wealthy businessman Les Otten versus the iconic 2008 Obama campaign logo. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

Hey Republicans...

Do any of you think Otten honestly has a chance of winning the Repub. primary, especially after such a stupid misstep right out of the gate? What does he bring that Poliquin or Jacobson don't?
