Hmmm, not to gloat or anything, but I mentioned/predicted this way back on the thread AMG had when Heath stepped down from head of the Maine CCL. (Yes, Michelle, I realize this is not a done deal!)

I met Mike years ago, and had a nice talk with him. He's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, and doesn't deserve the slime job the media has given him.

Anyway, every once and a while he trips over his ego.

Absolutely! We need another gubernatorial candidate, one who gives conservatives a real choice and can give those moderate Republicans a run for their money! Go, Mike, go!

Surely as conservatives we

Surely as conservatives we should oppose clean elections? Why should tax payers pay for other people's candidates?

Does anyone think he has a chance?

That is too bad, we at this

That is too bad, we at this point are lacking a candidate that we can agree with on many issues and be alienated by the same candidate at the same time along with the majority of the electorate.

"...to get him on the ballot

"...to get him on the ballot as the Pro-Life, Pro- Traditional Marriage Christian candidate the coming November."

He must have missed the fact that there is already a pro life pro traditional marriage candidate...and that he is a Christian...

I get the feeling that Mr. Heath really needs a sabbatical; a long time of thinking and introspection and rest.

An expert in Social issues

An expert in Social issues during a time of economic crisis who runs as a clean electin candidate after the deadline has passed? Huh?

This is Chandler Woodcock without the relevant experience or the political support. Is this April Fools Day?

The GOP has outstanding

The GOP has outstanding candidates who don't carry the polarizing baggage of Mike Heath, whether he's a nice man or not.

I've personally heard Bill Beardsley and Paul LePage and I know of Les Otten as eloquent, hardworking and accomplished. Beardsley and LePage are TOTALLY AWESOME! They want the job.

It's really an insult to voters to have Heath give the okay to gathering signatures for him. Why isn't HE gathering his own signatures? If Heath enters, he enters as a spoiler and we'll have Libby Mitchell or Pat McGowan as the next governor.

There are several very good

There are several very good reasons I hope Mr. Heath doesn't decide to run.

1) he would instantly galvanize the Democrats and moderate voters, who would then come out in gigantic droves to vote AGAINST Republican candidates - all up and down the ballot, both locally and state-level.

2) he would split the vote for moderate and right-wing R's. Splitting the vote is never, ever a good idea.

He is in the race. Email from

He is in the race.
Email from Mike Heath that was forewarded to me and one from Rev Dallas Henry:

I met with a good friend yesterday morning. He suggested I allow him to circulate petitions for Governor. If he gathers 4000 signatures by June 1st I told him I'd campaign for Governor this year. Alas, someone has to fix the mess in Augusta ... I suppose. The election is in November. I haven't been keeping track, but I think that makes me the 179th candidate to allow they are interested in the Blaine House!!?? I don't support homosexuality or abortion, in case you didn't know. I'll be talking about all the other issues before November (If Bob gets the signatures). I'll give you a hint regarding my political philosophy ... I believe in the people of Maine (especially the armed men and lovely ladies) more than I do the experts in either Washington or Augusta. Bob is going to need a lot of help, I suspect. He probably can't gather 4000 signatures single handedly. You can reach him at bob.celeste@yahoo.com or call him at 1-207-583-4511 to get petitions.

Go here for the announcement that Bob Celeste put up yesterday.

Michael S. Heath
Matthew 11:12

And the email from Rev Henry:
Good morning,

Some have been curious about the activities of Michael Heath in recent days and months.

Mike and Paulie, have recently returned from a visit to Tupelo, Miss. Mike has officially been awarded the leadership responsibility by the American Family Association to start a Maine AFA affiliate and also help other New England states do the same.

And to top that off, Mike has agreed to run for Governor in Maine, IF his friend, Bob, can get the needed 4,000 signatures.

I am trying to imagine what the state of Maine would look like with a Governor who is a man of prayer, a man of the highest integrity, a man who has demonstrated that he is passionate about protecting the family and especially children in our state. I CAN SUPPORT A MAN LIKE THAT ! ! ! How about you??

I could go on and on about Mike’s qualifications but I won’t in this email, but I just want to say that HE IS THE ONLY CANDIDATE THAT MEETS EVERY QUALIFICATION THAT, AS A CHRISTIAN, I AM LOOKING FOR! All the other candidates might be better than others on one or two of my desired qualifications for a Governor.

Let us pray for God’s will to be done in this.

Thanks and God bless
Dallas Henry

What an idiot. I'm sorry,

What an idiot. I'm sorry, but Heath will simply divide the conservative voting base. Rev. Henry, don't waste your time trying to imagine a man of prayer as governor. Imagine, instead, Libby Mitchell as governor. That's what Heath's candidacy means.

Mike Heath is a good man, I agree with Tom C, he has a raw deal from the liberal media in Maine.

Au contraire - he's richly

Au contraire - he's richly earned his own "raw deal," if one exists. He's successfully marginalized himself from most every political point on the spectrum.

Meanwhile, his candidacy would be a disaster for the Republican party, at the most crucial point in our recent history.

Is this really about trying to help Mainers, or is it about his own ego? He may be a "nice guy," but that's not the issue at hand.

As an afterthought, Rev Henry

As an afterthought, Rev Henry presupposes that the other candidates aren't prayerful, aren't honest with the utmost integrity, and aren't opposed to same sex marriage.

That's an insult, really. As I asked earlier, why isn't Heath actively campaigning if he wants to be governor? My only conclusion is that he's lazy.
