Editor's Note: The original thread title was "Liberal Democrats Having Fun or There's Trouble in Paradise." It has been changed to better reflect the news involved.
BELFAST, Maine — A Maine legislator whose romantic relationship with another lawmaker ended earlier this year claims her former boyfriend has stalked, harassed and threatened her.

He's TOAST.
This is a tragic situation, as it was when we had another incident last year with a legislator from across the aisle who I also consider a friend. If anything, please consider changing the title of this thread, Naran. There's nothing "fun" about this. This is a small state and the public comments about people in these stories can be very hurtful.
Andy - agreed. Also, far too many details in the BDN story - humiliating stories like that help no one.
Should the title be changed ?
I vote No! It appears two adults chose to engage in some behavior voluntarily that has turned into a real mess, that at least one party has appropriately sought legal help thus divulging details into the public realm.
I say the title clearly concisely covers it.
It may well be one of those instances where I "just didn't understand how things are done down there".
Change it if you must, but the facts remain the same.
Ugenetoo ,I suspect you all to well understand how those things work down there.

Since they both appear to be up for re-election, the voters in Belfast and Brunswick will have the chance to reconsider their choices at the ballot box this November.

As for changing the thread title, I will confer with my colleagues momentarily.
Please note --- I have requested input on the headline issue, and I am still waiting to hear back.

From Woodcanoe's other thread:
WOODCANOE wrote:
"According to the article House Minority leader, Emily Cain, had met with both parties in an attempt to defuse the volatile situation, to no avail, evidently!
Not an unusual situation in Maine, but a bit out of the ordinary for the Augusta powers that be, in their own sanctuary. If even a part of what Herbig has alleged turns out to be true, the stalker has some pretty serious problems.
No woman should have to put up with this stuff and, sadly, no matter how much more aware our society is of these issues these days, there are still some men who just don't "get it"."
WC
I find the title so generalized as to be almost inscrutable.
Dem Rep Allegedly Stalks other Dem Rep, Restraining Order Sought
The Maine Wire

...snip
.... Bangor Daily News... bizarre story about a relationship-gone-wrong....Belfast Rep. Erin Herbig...restraining order against Brunswick Rep. Alex Cornell du Houx, the son of Democrat activist and publisher of Maine Insights Ramona du Houx. (Alex)...Du Houx is an Iraq veteran turned anti-war activist, and has worked closely with the George Soros-funded Vote Vets organization.
Some comments are saying that the woman is married, but according to a comment in the Press herald web story from Quintero, spokesman for Emily Cain, Herbig is recently divorced.
The issue is not partisan, it's about a psycho who is terrorizing this woman and taking it into the statehouse, and could be dangerous not only for her, but others around them as well. NOT what you want distracting our government trying to work.
Bangor Daily has all the sensitivity of a turnip when it comes to reporting over people's personal issues. More the National Enquirer than a state paper.
The PPH has printed even more details.
I have asked for input regarding the threadline, and still haven't heard back. Just an FYI.

"Public statements like this......" , Then I suppose you can see where some might feel that could apply to the recent verbal misstep from the gov.?
Our tax dollars at work. Not sure how well they are representing their voters, while playing footsie.
Islander,not sure?
I agree listen that seems to be the case. But only if we choose to believe her side of this completely. It we believe him its just a convenient way to dump a guy.
I admit she certainly appears to have more credibility but she is, or was, the married one, so who knows.
I imagine most people side with her because she is attractive but that rationale seemed to have not worked out so well for poor old de Houx.
I have no tolerance for this behavior by anyone.
That said , before the mantle of victimhood is hoisted into place here it might be prudent to await more information in this matter.
And no it is not personal business if it was behavior that was brought into the state house by either party intended or not!
A careful reading of the BDN comments might shine some light!
In a related matter I suppose it is good that leg. working papers are shielded from view !!!!
"Erin lives in Belfast with her husband, Josh Povec. They are members of the Belfast Curling Club.
As of 4/23/2012"
Odd for sure!
There are two sides to every story and the truth lies somewhere in the middle. It is not prudent to rely on the press for what that middle may be.
I have a feeling we are not dealing with a couple of saints here...simply humans.
What I am really curious to know is how were they living together and continuing to serve in the Legislature? If you don't live in your home district anymore, aren't you required to resign your seat?
You are being picky, picky, picky.
Why do the Democrats continue to put these kids up for seats? Who was that drunk from Scarborough, that got busted for drunk driving before he was thrown out of office by the voters? Things like this will continue to happen when immature young people are elected to these seats.
I believe the requirement doesn't cover ,"hooking up.(fill in blanks ) or other term of choice.
Really Beth, if there is someone in the middle, this might go where we might not want to go , oh you meant additional story !!!!!!
"temporary order "
You can get a temporary order with a pulse and an affidavit. It isn't a ruling on the relative strength of the case. The rubber meets the road at the hearing. That's how it should be.
Absolutely TJC,and in living color on all channels !
So she is dating Alex but married to another man...... Alex should have learned to avoid modern feminists by now.
A protection orcer is a civil matter, and it is merely the legal codification of a request that someone unwelcome stay away from us. It says "I don't want you near me, and I've requested that you stay away and don't bother me." Legally, no criminal finding or even intent is required.
It, however, lays the groundwork for escalating charges.
Judges receive TRAINING from feminist groups, however, that tends to put the judges in an advocacy role, rather than in independent, unbiased role when dealing with these.
There is also a political element, judges who don't show enough enthusiasm for purported female "victims" may be loudly critisized by the harpies. The defendent here has a political advantage over the regular Joe Shmoe dragged into court on this type of matter.
The article mentioned that the gentleman suitor is " a Marine and Iraq war veteran" and has a concealed weapons permit. This information on face value along with some of his war stories makes liberals fear him. If he was being a pest and would not stop chasing her, he was in the wrong. However the comment about his veterinarian status are far fetched. The next thing we will hear is an allegation that he has untreated PTSD and not a bleeding heart.

From the BDN article:
Rep. Erin Herbig, a first-term Belfast Democrat, has secured a protection from abuse order against Rep. Alexander Cornell du Houx, a two-term Democratic member of the Maine House of Representatives from Brunswick.
Cornell du Houx ..."...This is just a messy breakup of a loving couple.”
