Libertarians masquerading as Republicans? You've got to be kidding me!

"Over the weekend, organizers of the Paul Festival, an event bringing speakers, rock bands and entertainers together in Tampa from Aug. 24-26 -- right before the Republican convention -- announced that Johnson will be taking part in their festivities. Johnson’s running mate, Jim Gray -- a trial court judge based out of Orange County, Calif., who has been a sharp critic of the drug laws -- will also be speaking at the Paul Festival."

Apollo,

I am pretty new to AMG, but it seems like Ron Paul or the Ron Paul supporters can do nothing right according to you.

Gary Johnson is seen as a friend of the liberty movement so why wouldn't he asked to speak? It makes perfect since if you see this as more a movement and not a political party rally.

If anything the GOP should embrace the Liberty Movement, as it is their future.

Cheerio.

Well, maybe because Johnson will pull votes from Romney in some critical states? Maybe they should ask Obama to speak at their rally too, it makes about as much sense. Or maybe it is just naive of me that people that call themselves Republicans would support the nominee of the party against Obama.

I see where you are coming from, you see a vote for anyone but Romney as a vote for President Obama.

I'm afraid Apollo is the one being short sighted here. Romney is the end of the GOP - IF elected. We will lose a dozen Governorships and 70 seats in the House in 2014 if he wins in '12. No base, no message (other than "I'm not Obama"), no bold policy proposals, nada, just a rich Rockefeller Republican technocrat.

Want to return LePage to the Blaine House in 2014? There is no one who has done more for Republicans than Obama in electoral terms. We picked up 66 seats with that turkey running the show last time, and we'll pick up another 66 if he is still there in '14. What a tragedy that would be - for the Marxists. Obummer completely discredits the Left at every turn.

Of course, it would be wrong to vote for Obama, no matter how much he will help us. That is where Governor Johnson comes in....

Apollo, Gary Johnson was a Republican up until December of 2011. He went Libertarian because he was smart enough to realize that Romney was the anointed one. Johnson is more of a Republican than Romney.

Johnson got the 2008 Ron Paul treatment from lamestream. Four years later and a lot more grassroots/money; lamestream could not repeat with RP, stuck it to Johnson.

Alter Ego is basically right. It will be interesting to see what happens after Paul is definitely out of the race and Johnson is on the ballot around the country. Critical though I have been of Paul, I would have voted for him in the general election without a second's hesitation. I hope Paul supporters will do that for Johnson and make it impossible to ignore him.

Our country is in crisis and we have the worst Rep/Dem choice we've had in 90 years. We need to hit the re-set button on American politics and get back to our founding principles instead of fiddling around with people who have slightly different ideas about tuning our worn out strings.

Insofar as I can keep my nose to the ground and my tail in the air from my rustic home, I'm seeing support for Johnson's positions on left and right across my contacts around the country. It is not at all a matter of taking votes away from Romney, not, as Jerry Seinfeld would say, that there's anything wrong with that. Votes will also be diverted from Obama.

If Gary Johnson can be kept in the public eye, he will gain support.
