A change in Congress to suit Maine

NOTE: This content from the Lewiston Sun Journal endorsement has been added by AMG to help AMG readers. Also, "BDN" was added to the original thread subject line to reflect the two newspaper endorsements in this thread.

OUR VIEW: Kevin Raye — A change in Congress to suit Maine
Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 3:05 pm

During the past decade, Michaud has adopted a low-key profile on everything but veterans issues, and is comfortably part of an increasingly listless Congress.

We can’t afford listless.

Maine has only two seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and we need someone in the 2nd District seat who is aggressive about jobs, the economy, cost-cutting and responsible spending.

Maine’s current Senate president, Kevin Raye, is that person.

Kevin Raye’s majority-party status would benefit Maine
Posted Oct. 25, 2012, at 1:15 p.m.

We are endorsing state Sen. Kevin Raye to represent the 2nd Congressional District because of his political skills and his commitment to Maine and because we believe having someone in the majority party in the U.S. House will improve the odds that legislation benefiting Maine will pass.

He has led the Maine Senate fairly as its president.

Very good news and accurate! Hopefully this will help, but given the recent track record of second district voters I'm not optomistic. Michaud seems to have some kind of mystical hold of their minds. All the recent press about zombies may provide part of the explanation!

Kevin Endorsed by Two Largest 2nd District Newspapers

Lewiston's Sun Journal and Bangor Daily News throw support to Kevin

With just 11 days to go, the momentum behind Kevin's bid for Congress has received yet another boost with the endorsement of the two largest newspapers in the Second Congressional District! Both the Bangor Daily News and Lewiston's Sun Journal posted endorsements on-line yesterday, and featured them in print editions today. Both cited Kevin's proven record of leadership in reaching across the aisle to build consensus and solve problems.

"Maine has only two seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and we need someone in the 2nd District seat who is aggressive about jobs, the economy, cost-cutting and responsible spending. Maine's current Senate president, Kevin Raye, is that person," said the Sun Journal.

In its endorsement of Raye, the Sun Journal recalled their endorsement of Michaud when he and Raye faced each other in 2002, noting, "It is now time for a change. During the past decade, Michaud has adopted a low-key profile on everything but veterans issues, and is comfortably part of an increasingly listless Congress. We can't afford listless." Citing Michaud's voting record, the Sun Journal said, "partisanship is killing this country's unity, Maine can't afford a representative who is comfortably following the party. We need a leader who is, as Raye has demonstrated, a consensus builder and a doer."

The Bangor Daily News, which had endorsed each of Michaud's four previous re-election campaigns, said, "We are endorsing state Sen. Kevin Raye to represent the 2nd Congressional District because of his political skills and his commitment to Maine and because we believe having someone in the majority party in the U.S. House will improve the odds that legislation benefiting Maine will pass... Our decision to endorse Raye is rooted in his strengths - we would not endorse a weak candidate just because he or she belonged to the majority party."

Like the Sun Journal, the Bangor Daily News cited Raye's record of reaching across the aisle. "Having worked for Snowe for 17 years, Raye has learned many lessons about the necessary difficulties associated with bipartisanship and compromise. As a business owner and Senate president, he knows what it's like to be responsible to others and to lead. May he use his skills as the next congressman to represent the 2nd District."

The two newspaper endorsements come just one day after we began airing a new TV ad featuring a heartfelt endorsement from Olympia Snowe, in which she tells viewers, "I trust Kevin Raye. He's exactly what we need in Washington."

Olympia is right. Won't you please donate $10, $15, $20 or whatever you can afford to ensure Kevin achieves victory on Election Day?

Your contribution today will help Kevin keep the momentum - and make sure the voters see Olympia's ad and hear her message of strong support for Kevin!

BDN Struggles With ADHD, Endorses Obama

Maine can't afford listless but clueless is still in the budget?

I don't trust the BDN or LSJ as far as I can throw them. Completely ulterior motives, whatever they may be. They are total leftist hacks.

Mr. Magoo, you are so right. Michaud is the perfect example of people voting out of some feeling, or hunch, or completely groundless afinity. None of the people I know who vote for him have anything to say about him, good or bad. They are just simply going to vote for him again. If you asked them why, they couldn't tell you.

The LSJ has endorsed Mitt Romney for President.

Romney: The right leader for this country

Of the two, Romney gets things done. Obama does not.

Americans’ single biggest concern is jobs. We want to work. We want to earn a living and take an active part in the American Dream.

That happened in Massachusetts under Romney’s leadership. It hasn’t happened across the country with Obama in the White House.

When Mike Michaud was in the Maine legislature he voted exactly as he was told to vote by John Martin. In Washington he votes exactly as he is told to vote by Nancy Pelosi. It's time for Mikey to bring his lunch bucket back to East Millinocket.

I'm thinking Mike is going to be spending more time at his house in the Grand Caymans instead of East Millinocket.

Maybe John Martin will join him there.

Well, even though it's galling to think of funding these grifters in their "golden years," it's still better than having them on the job in DC and Augusta, doing the taxpayers even more harm.

Raye is closing FAST, so please talk him up - he could win this thing!

"It's doubtful his lunchbox ever left East MIllinocket..."

Nope. It's in his office in DC. I have never been in his office in DC, but I saw a picture of it once.

And, yes, Kevin could take this.

Rumor says Media Mike has several shiny lunchboxes -- one in his DC office, and one in the back seat of his luxury, taxpayer-funded leased vehicle. He keeps it in the car to remind him of the "little people" paying the bills, the ones footing the taxes needed to send him to Congress, where even the Sun Journal says he's been "listless," and inactive.

That picture is not accurate. I demonstrated four years ago that Mike's lunchbox contains only baloney.

Why newspaper endorsements don't matter

We live in a far different political and intellectual environment than we did 40 years ago, or even 20 years ago, when the daily newspaper on the front doorstep was the sign of an informed household.
