Maine Population Rebounds! The worst is over!

I received a call from an informed source today telling me that there were 4,000 births in Maine in July, making a total of 20,000 so far this year. At this rate, there will be 30,000 or more new citizens in Maine by the end of the year.

So it looks like we are entering a period of robust growth. Just think - at this rate, our population will increase by 300,000 in the next 10 years!

What a colossal rebound; surely it derives from the policies but in place since the 30 plus year reign of the Democrat ruling class came to an end two years ago.

Uh, Melvin,

We are the oldest state. Are you sure the passing of these old folks does not exceed the birth rate?

Major buzz kill, Roger.

Next think you know, you'll want Obama to offset the "new jobs created" figure by the number of jobs eliminated.

And expect out-migration to be factored in to the population growth analysis.

Regarding those births:

They didn't do that.

They just as easily could be immigrant anchor babies.

So far, only Roger has gotten even slightly warm.

I'm not interested in the diversity we're all supposed to embrace. How many are Somali?

How many of these new "citizens" are in white, working, two-parent families?

Question(s):

How many of those births were to "single mommy/multiple daddy" combos that are already on the welfare roles?

The question really is: "How many of those 4000 births are the people of Maine's new children"?

And that figure also leaves out any and all folks who may have left the state in that time period, looking for better jobs/opportunities.

Equating births to population increases is at best a guess....until you see how many deaths were reported how many people no longer call Maine their home,e tc...its just a statistic to itself and nothing more.

I'd be more interested in seeing growth in the number of Mainers working going in a positive direction, than we can afford to welcom new children into our communities.

Well, let me let you in on the little secret. I used this diversion as a way of mimicking what is going on in the 'jobs recovery' world.

NEW FIRST TIME applications for unemployment nationally run about 350,000 or more PER WEEK, or about 1,500,000 newly unemployed PER MONTH.

In July, 160,000 'new jobs were added,' and the Pres marvels over the great progress we're making, as the stated unemployment rate moves from 8.2% to 8.3%.

The jobs added is slightly more than 1/10th of the new unemployment apps, but wow, look at him and his great leadership.

Millions less in the workforce, but we're making steady progress.

Will someone please explain to me how we can stand by and watch this obfuscation taking place right under our noses?

Voter apathy, perhaps?

I believe it's far deeper and broader than that, but that is certainly a component.

I see it as THE major component.

Most people in this country know more about who's dancing with the stars than what their government is doing to them.

The stock market soared Friday on"the better than expected jobs number of 163,000". Really? That's a whopping 3.260 jobs per state. And as always the number of jobs eliminated is never calculated.... I wonder if they consider the turnover rate in service sector jobs as jobs created or new hiring....I'm sure that sometime a little later in August the numbers will be revised downward....

......"Voter apathy, perhaps?".......

I would state it "voter stupidity".

How many people do you know, who voted for Obama, or any liberals, or even lots of Republicans, who have seriously thought about the implications of that vote?

Voting for someone simply because you belive that with your vote, you will ensure more "government largesse for yourself" does NOT count as "serious consideration"! At some point serious voters must look at the big picture and many cannot do that as they do not realize the long term implications of NOT doing so.

Our country is about to go down the tubes because way too many of us have voted for "self interest" as opposed to the "future of our nation" and it shows.

Voter apathy is more appropriate.

Voting isn't just getting off your rear in order to get to the polls.
There is a certain responsibility that goes along with your duty to cast a ballot One should know what and who they're voting for, and IMHO, most don't make the effort.
Stupidity is simply a byproduct of being uninformed.

I believe it's far deeper and broader than that, but that is certainly a component.

Another component is the media's refusal to hold Obama accountable. According to the Associated Press et al. his every setback happens "unexpectedly" and couldn't possibly be a policy failure.

Let's go to the one vote for each dollar of federal income tax paid.
