Mark Steyn: Things only a Kennedy could get away with

We are enjoined not to speak ill of the dead. But, when an entire nation – or, at any rate, its "mainstream" media culture – declines to speak the truth about the dead, we are certainly entitled to speak ill of such false eulogists. In its coverage of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's passing,

That's the most asinine and cruel thing I've read in a long time. Mary Jo the Martyr to propel Teddy into prominance? Guess Kennedy worship will reach to any low to justify itself. Unbelieveable....then again, not really.
Thank you, Mark Steyn, Canadian citizen, for writing what so many Americans are either too ignorant or plain sycophantic to admit. Kennedy represented the basest form of ascendancy to have germinated in our young nation.
I owe "Teddy" my conservatism, in large part. It was his embarrassing tirade directed toward Bork that first found me questioning the sanity of the liberal perspective.
Al,
Do not apologize. Four days after Nixon died, the press dumped on him for a week.
Teddy should have been held accountable for Mary Jo's death. Either he was drunk and didn't know where he was going or he was sober and knew exactly where he was going. It wasn't wromg to be giving the girl a ride home, but he wasn't headed towards home.
Frankly, I give the Kopechne family a lot of credit for remaining silent. I'm sure there have been journalists anxious to get comments from any of them still around, but so far, not one word in the press or on the news.

Objective question: WAS his the most illustrious senatorial carreer in the last 100 years, or just the most publicized because of his name? How many pieces of ground-breaking legislation were really his? I honestly don't know that answer, but it seems to me that Thurmond and Byrd were or have been there longer, and you can't argue that Byrd hasn't been one of the best at bringing home the pork - look at all the government centers that are in West VA, for instance. Just a thought for discussion...
Indeed. Wasn't "No Child Left Behind" architected and authored by E.M. Kennedy himself? Bush is always 'blamed' for NCLB, but it was Ted's baby, no?

"At the Huffington Post, Melissa Lafsky mused on what Mary Jo "would have thought about arguably being a catalyst for the most successful Senate career in history … Who knows – maybe she'd feel it was worth it." What true-believing liberal lass wouldn't be honored to be dispatched by that death panel?"
Such words leave me gasping......is this what worship of Government does to you?
