Our best chance to stop this is in the Senate.

A good place to start is to contact Sen. John Nutting (D-Androscoggin). He is relatively moderate. His district is comprised of: Greene, Leeds, Lisbon, Livermore, Livermore Falls, Mechanic Falls, Minot, Sabattus, Turner and Wales. Chandler Woodcock came in first in all but one of these towns.

Camel's nose in the tent. Once this is in place, the next push is for a waiting period for ALL purchasers. Then onto the next gun restriction.

Regardless of the arguments you make for this, you only have to look at the ongoing dishonesty of the gun-grabbers to see that this should be nipped in the bud.

Cosponsored by: Representatives BABBIDGE of Kennebunk,

Kennebunk has come a long way towards communism since the days of Jack Libby.

I had hoped Kennebunkport and Arundel would move, politically, towards the direction of Kennebunk, seems Kennebunk has followed the lead of Kennebunkport and Arundel and gone Jason Wentworth in their poltics.

Exactly right. This is just one step toward a larger goal.

There are sufficient firearm-related laws already on the books. Firm, even enforcement of those laws should be quite enough to guard individual liberties and general safety.

I love this. I hope we get a roll-call vote that we can beat them over the head with.

It is astounding that the anti-gun people would use the grief and guilt of this mom to further their insidious agenda. Have they no shame?

All foolishness and nothing surprising.

All I have to do is look at the list of names sponsoring any bill of this type to tell if it is legitimate or not. When I see STRIMLING and GERZOFSKY listed I can usually assume it is garbage based on some of their foolishness in the past. For the "Doubting Thomas's" does anyone remember "LD-1579 - An Act to Extend the Ban on Assault Weapons" from last session? I have never seen such a draconian piece of legislation introduced this side of Nazi Germany. Just in case you think I may think I am being an alarmist or just getting carried away, read a few of these words included in the bill and decide for yourself.

Banning of "Manufacture, Transfer or Possession" of currently owned, completely legal firearms and ammunition....."Confiscation" and "Seizure" and "Forfeiture" of currently owned, completely legal firearms and ammunition.

That was all serious as far as they were concerned too. Sorry but that bunch (kinda like Brady Bunch. huh?) have absolutely ZERO credibility with lots of honest people in Maine after that last little "Stunt."

Given their track record for passing legislation I would think that anyone serious about having their Bill passed would do anything to NOT have these guys as a sponsor or co-sponsor. Maybe people will start to smarten up a little to their willingness to jump on every bandwagon going past willing to disarm lawful Mainers and people who DO have honorable intensions and have serious and legitimate issues to be legislated would consider Strimling "the Third Rail of Maine Politics" and have the understanding that if it is a gun bill and he is a co-sponsor, it WILL be defeated.

My email to my Senator:

Dear Senator Nutting,
As a parent who lost a child at age 7 [to illness], I'm more than sympathetic towards the mother who initiated this legislation. She has the excuse of deep, emotional pain to excuse her ill conceived effort at gun control. I would ask, however that you apply reason in voting against it.
This young man was a member of our armed forces, and was considered an adult. We have many people under 21 who are in the military, and to force them to wait 10 days to buy a shotgun when we allow them the use of fully automatic weapons, even tanks, is insulting.
I have been involved in 2 high speed motorcycle accidents, and I'm lucky to be alive today. It would be easy to get my mother's enthusiastic support to ban motorcycles, but that doesn't mean it would be a good idea. Emotion doesn't make good law. Please work to defeat this legislation.

Sincerely,
Michael Travers

I doubt that John Martin would even consider supporting this. What about the Rs?

I think the "left" should make a decision.
{Are we adults at age 18 or not?} You can vote for me, you can have a gun in the army and die for me, but for your own use, ya gotta wait.

"Son, what did you want this gun for anyway?"
"To shoot the SOB that wrote this law."
"SOLD!"

Hard to say. You never know which way Karl Turner and Peter Mills are going to vote.

The whole thing sucks.

I don't buy that many guns anymore but, when I do, it's generally because I've wandered into a gun shop to see what they have. If I see something I want, then I want to buy it right then - and not have to come back later to get it.

It would have to be a pretty special piece that I'd put up with a for waiting period. A law like this isn't going to do gun shops any favors.
