Re: The New State Seal

I admit to not picking up on the Enron connection.I thought it was supposed to be a stylized version of "Maine going down in flames."Nobody ever said I was artsy-fartsy.

Really? What about the $130MM lost by the DHS?What about the items taken "off budget"?What about the $350MM they stiffed the hospitals? What about the $41MM Dirigate KICKBACK to Anthem? What about the $75MM "surplus" that never was? What about Maine selling a bridge to Maine?
How much time have you got?

I wouldn't rule it out. DHHS lost $130,000,000 remember and they still aren't fixing or giving the info that the Feds. wanted over 2 years ago.
Can't you go find a stray dog to kick, or maybe a parapalegic to pick on? Is Fletch Augustaneocon reincarnated?

Be careful about Cafe Press. You have two issues to worry about:1. You are creating a satire of trade marked logo. Cafe Press may not let you put it up.2. Cafe Press will claim copyright on anything you post on them for reproduction purposes. They're sneaky like that.

Keenan, Your stray dog and parapalegic comment is offensive, not only to me I would think. No I'm not Augusta Neocon.I guess the question is are these activities fraudulent or does it come with the business of running a state? Do you really want to run a campaign saying that elected officials are breaking the law or do you want to say their priorities are not in line with Maine people's priorities?I don't think the public will respond well with words like "fraud" and "Enron" come election time. It is too negative.[ 07-31-2005: Message edited by: thefletch ]

Even though Enron is just a shell of the former company it still would sue you sideways for using their logo if it found out it was being used in such a way. Try stealing Coke or IBM's logo and see what happens to you.

Looks like some people think that's the same thing.

quote:...elected officials are breaking the law ...?

Well, they sure backed down from the unConstitutional $1/2 Billion borrowing package didn't they? Was that breaking the law?
They did the same thing before I got there with a bond to improve the Statehouse (I believe) without asking the voters. What do you expect, they've been operating for so long under a system of legal confiscation.Maybe you need to have a discussion with Trahan of OPEGA.

quote:I don't think the public will respond well

I'll tell you what, it's our job as the opposition party to provide an additional level of checks and balances to American-style government. We'll report...you decide.

fletch's employer depends upon lots of contracts with the Baldacci administration so he gets upset when anyone is too tough on the Governor. He then starts lashing out as you can see above.

Not true. People are saying that he is engaging in fraudulent activities. I don't believe that.George, I am a Republican and hope that Bennett or Collins jump in because they can win and we may be able to get real change. I am bummed about Cianchette being as good as it gets for Republicans because I can look into the future and see the pain of not winning.

Mr. Vaughan, if Baldacci is committing fraud as you say, is it not your civic duty to bring formal charges against him?

Re: The New State Seal

I wonder the same thing. I know if I think someone is committing fraud I want them arrested and thrown in jail. Do you people actually want Baldacci arrested and thrown in jail or is this more of "rah rah rah", rally the troops stuff?

Re: The New State Seal

Baldacci's cooking of the books by taking things off budget so he could claim the budget increased less than in past administration's is an accounting practice worthy of Enron. It is not fraud in the criminal sense but his claims are fraudulent as Rep. Trahan's analysis has shown.

Re: The New State Seal

I remember when a journalist from a national business publication started asking Enron executives about how they actually earned money, and how their stock could possibly be worth what its share price. the executives told her that it was a very complex business and that she couldn't possibly understand. Running Enron something that should be left up to them. Then the shareholders were told that everything is fine and management advised them to hold their shares even while management was selling theirs. We have a government that can't explain its own accounting formulas or hold up to any financial scrutiny. Hmm, a practice like that sure isn't his brainchild. Both Democrat and Republicans cook the books.web page[ 07-31-2005: Message edited by: Robert ]

Well DUUUUHHHH!!!! We've been reviewing Federal Statute 1962 (a-d) otherwise known as the RICO Statute.
You know; "Anti - RACKETEERING". We probably don't have much of a criminal case because the Supreme Court has juristiction over cases of governmental extortion and corruption. But RICO has some pretty interesting CIVIL provisions, including "Extortion under color of official right" - which a few DHHS hacks may find themselves learning about any time now.
And Plaintiffs can be awarded "Treble" (3X) damages, too! Did you know that? State immune from civil litigation?
Ever heard of Marti v. Wouri? "Class Action", anyone? One of our Guests this past Sat. has a whole BOODLE of evidence on those rascals, accumulated over several years. Not to mention some credible wittnesses in the wings. Add to that - we are starting to hear rumblings of "impeachment" in regards to our self-promoted Emperor Baldacci the Magnificent ("Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!"). Sounds like a plan to me!

quote:...Brent, do you know what a common stock is?

Easy now; our young Bravo may well have a better portfolio put together than you do, fletch.

Mark me woids, Mateys; this Brent lad has potential!

Hey Fletch;[img]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v53/UncleJaque/Politics/BaldisCombover...How d'ya like the new combover?I could have done better but I'm too cheap for Photoshop. All I've got is a crumby freeware graphics editor. Sorry.UJ

Naaah, Fletch can't possibly be AugustaNeocon. AugustaNeo was mighty vicious, although surprisingly intelligent at times, which made him even scarier.Fletch can't be AugustaNeo, because while he's petty and petulant, intelligent he ain't. It doesn't take a genius to spell 'J-E-A-L-O-U-S-Y.' That's what's operating when he disses Brent.I think the Enron/Maine State Seal is freaking brilliant. I'd buy one for all my friends, if it was obtainable as a bumpersticker.[ 07-31-2005: Message edited by: Naran ]
