Obama corruption: the Firing of Gerald Walpin
- Login to post comments
Chicago gangland/mob politics continues emanating from the White House. You won't read about this in the Bangor Daily News. Sadly, not much will become of this story. The American people will be kept in the dark and the opinion makers in the mainstream media will write it off as partisan politics as they continue to protect the corruption in the Obama/Emanuel/Axelrod White House.
Here's a link to Walpin's report to Congress. His main point is that the U.S. Attorney's office allowed Kevin Johnson to pay back SOME of the money that was illicitly spent and then Johnson as Mayor of Sacramento would not be barred from receiving or managing further federal grants.
Special Report to Congress FromThe Office of Inspector General Of The Corporation for National and Community Service
One of the requirements of the Inspectors General Reform Act is that the president to outline the cause for his decision to remove an Inspector General.
I can find no reason given by Mr. Obama other than his saying that he does not have the "fullest confidence" in Walpin.
Can anyone else find details about his reasons?
I am certain he must've given them, since he co-sponsored the bill and clearly understands the importance of these guidelines in order to keep the integrity of the job of the IG.
(Sec. 3) Requires the President, the heads of designated federal entities, the Librarian of Congress, the Capitol Police Board, and the Public Printer to communicate to Congress in writing the reasons for removing or transferring an IG no later than 30 days before such removal or transfer.
So when did the Won give the 30 days notice? On world apology tour #2?

The White House Fires a Watchdog
The curious case of the inspector general and a Presidential ally.
This case smells of political favoritism, Chicago rules.
This case appears to be one in which an IG was fired because he criticized a favorite Congressional/executive project (AmeriCorps), and refused to bend to political pressure...
Last year Congress passed the Inspectors General Reform Act, which requires the President to give Congress 30 days notice, plus a reason, before firing an inspector general. A co-sponsor of that bill was none other than Senator Obama.
The Beck interview with Walpin was superb! It is available here.
The video is about 1/3 of the way down.
LMD: It is available here in transcript form as well.
You do not understand...under the Obama scheme and the corrupt democrat congress, laws and rights only apply to republicans. Democrats can do whatever they desire...Think about it for a moment. This was not done in secret. It go out fast and no one denies anything but the old democrat media simply does not care and won't report it. In ObamaLand one does not investigate friends of Obama...simply not done.
Until people as a vast body arise, things will only get worse because the the government will not protect us from...the government.
The Beck interview with Walpin was superb!
How could that be? According to the President, Walpin is ready for the old age home.

Democratic senator questions AmeriCorps firing
The Associated Press
Posted: Tuesday, Jun. 16, 2009
WASHINGTON - Sen. McCaskill, D-Mo., said the president failed to follow [the] law.., which requires he give Congress 30 days advance notice of an inspector general's dismissal, along with cause for the firing.
"Loss of confidence is not a sufficient reason," McCaskill said.
Late Tuesday, Obama's special counsel, Norman Eisen, sent a letter to [Sens.] McCaskill, Lieberman, Collins, describing Walpin as "confused, disoriented, unable to answer questions" during a May meeting.
I've seen several interviews he has done and he did not seem "confused" to me. Quite the contrary, he seemed pretty vigorous for a man his age. This really smells.
Al
Just like in the Soviet Union... if you disagreed with the boss, you were insane!
This is incredible.
I've written to Snowe/Collins/Michaud every day this week asking for an explanation.
"Loss of confidence is not a sufficient reason".
As Walpin said himself, "Loss of confidence is not a reason, it's a conclusion."(or words to that effect).
He has more executive experience than O could ever hope to have.
If it's now OK to fire someone who appears confused, does that mean we can get rid of Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi?
Al, this is exactly like Travelgate:
The Obama administration went into hardball mode in its quest to rid itself of a troublesome Inspector General and to protect a sweetheart deal for a political ally. The White House sent a letter to Congress last night that accused Gerald Walpin of senility in all but name, alleging that Walpin had been confused and disoriented at a key meeting. However, that hardly fits with the manner in which the Obama administration attempted to push Walpin out of his post
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/06/17/obama-playing-hardball-on-walpin-a...
Remember Travelgate? When Hillary had the travel office fired so she could replace them with family. When caught they trumped up charges against them and used the Justice Dept to abuse the folk they fired. This is exactly the same thing. Looks like we have Carter for foreign policy and Clinton for crooked domestic policy all wrapped up in Obama.
If it's now OK to fire someone who appears confused, does that mean we can get rid of Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi?
Good one. LOL. :)
The same but different, in my view, Jim
Nepotism aside, the real disgrace of the Travelgate affair is that somebody felt it necessary to trump up ethics and embezzlement accusations against the incumbents wen all that needed to be done was to dismiss them. They were political appointees. They could have been dismissed without cause, but "somebody " decided to smear them.
As for the Walpin affair, there are now laws shielding the IGs from summary dismissal, as it should be for a whistle-blower-in-chief and investigator of any whistleblower's claim. And I agree that loss of confidence should not be cause for dismissal for these positions -- I'm sure W.J. Clinton had absolutely no confidence in Kenneth Starr, by way of example. (A better example might be the Friday night massacre, when Elliot Richardson resigned as U.S. AG, his deputy William Ruckelshaus also resigned, both refusing to carry out Nixon's order to fire Archibald Cox, the Special Prosecutor for the Watergate case. Their resignations left Solicitor General Robert Bork as next in line to serve as acting AG and he did the firing.)
Now comes a clear case of nepotism/cronyism. If nothing else, although they are political appointments, I really don't think IG slots are an appropriate place for friends and family. It seems lunacy to pick this, of all positions, to go after. Perhaps it's been out there all along, but it seems what started being described as a loss of confidence, is being fleshed out into a smear to justify the loss of confidence. Somebody mentioned up above the old Soviet model of accusing folks of drooling and packing them off the the insane ward.
Well, wrap me up and lock me down. I took a colleague to task once in a meeting, just as he finished uttering a sentence about how we were ready for the "operationalization phase" of his plan to "incentivize" employees to participate in a new "paradigm." I asked simply if he meant that the time was ripe for us to start enouraging our people to do business in a different way. The Obama people talk a lot like that colleague of mine, and if someone a generation older than me had a little trouble keeping up with the deluge of buzzwords, jargon and psychobabble, the problem is not with the listener, it's with the speaker who cannot make himself understood to a person of normal (or in this case, I suspect, above average) intelligence.
NEW: White House refuses to answer Senate's questions on AmeriCorps IG firing

Norman Eisen, the White House Special Counsel to the President for Ethics and Government Reform, met with investigators on the staff of Republican Sen. Charles Grassley at Grassley's offices this morning. The investigators wanted to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the abrupt firing of AmeriCorps inspector general Gerald Walpin. According to Grassley, Eisen revealed very, very little, refusing to answer many questions of fact put to him.
NEW: White House refuses to answer Senate's questions on AmeriCorps IG firing
He knows he will never, ever be held accountable. Someone should ramp up the issue and ask for a special prosecutor. The dems would never allow it but the term would scare the daylights out of and infuriate the left....

AmeriCorps IG Tit-for-Tat Continues
Updated 6:08 p.m. ET
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) had a more favorable take on the matter. The ranking member on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee seemed satisfied with the explanations, but asked administration and Corporation officials to provide further details.

Remind me again, what side of the aisle is Senator Collins supposed to sit on? I'll never be conned into voting for her again.
Al
The Chicago Trib is noting that there have been 3 IG's fired in recent weeks, all odly enough investigating b ig dems or friends of Barak.

I am concerned about the fact that this has somehow become a partisan issue. It is an integrity issue, and an issue of the clear fact that those who are politically connected -- or elected so-called leaders -- need not follow the law.
Mr. Obama himself co-sponsored the law which he is now violating.
That should be of concern to all Americans, whatever party they happen to be attached to.
Couple that with the large number of his friends and appointees who are excused when they fail to follow laws. Tax cheats, including the Secretary of the Treasury, among many others, now include the close friend of Mr. Obama, disgraced Mayor Kevin Johnson, who was being investigated by Mr. Walpin.
Should it not concern each and every American that the very foundation of our country is being ignored by a man and his cronies who are obviously making new rules for themselves as they go along?
Forget what side of the aisle Senator Collins is on. Where is her integrity??
I read the Washington Post article that the editor posted and I was so mad that I called Senator Collins office again. I was told that the Senator has yet to make a statement on the issue. Then I read to the nice little girl the quote from the article.
I have no idea how any decent person can NOT see the travesty of the firing of Gerald Walpin. NEVER would this be allowed to happen in the private sector in a large corporation without some due process and agreement from both parties.
Senator Collins, if the quote is accurate, is supporting the president in breaking federal laws. APPARENTLY THERE IS NO LAW IN THE UNITED STATES ANYMORE. We live in a dictatorship. It's that simple. I urge all AMGers to call Collins/Snowe/Michaud/What'sHerNamefromthe1stCD every day and express displeasure and demand an explanation.
When will the lawlessness of the White House be challenged?
Anyone up for chipping for some full page ads in the Bangor Daily and/or the Portland PH?
I emailed this letter to Collins, Snowe and Michaud today:
Concerning the firing of Gerald Walpin and TWO other Inspectors General, when the President breaks the law, who holds him accountable? His Attorney General will not.
Why aren't you in Congress investigating this scandal? What did the Inspectors General find that was SO compelling to the Obama administration that these people had to be fired in violation of federal law?
When will you in Congress protect the American people from a president who willfully breaks the law?

Remember the endless liberal outcry over Bush firing 8 US Attorneys (while nothing was said when Clinton fired them all)? And now, barely a peep.....
I hope this guy files a whistleblower suit against the Obama adminstration. He found some rats and is being let go for shining the light.
