Obama Wants Boy Scouts to be Like Cuba's Red Scarves

Editor's Note: Obama's duplicity wasn't lost on the scouts.

It will take leaders who were scouts to reverse the damage being done.

Obama and his speech writers have NO IDEA what the scouts are about. Not one thing mentioned about CHARACTER FORMATION.

On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.

A Scout is:

•Trustworthy,
•Loyal,
•Helpful,
•Friendly,
•Courteous,
•Kind,
•Obedient,
•Cheerful,
•Thrifty,
•Brave,
•Clean,
•and Reverent.

The only two things the One saw in the Boy Scout oath were loyal and obedient and that was good enough for him. Plus he likes the uniforms they wear, sort of like the youth army he envisions.

Frankly, I think you are being a bit hard on the prez. BTW, if my kids booed the prez for this particular speech, and it got on youtube, I'd make 'em each write an apology. A scout is "courteous, kind" IMHO, a bunch of adults wound 'em up in advance.

In terms of effect, imagine the crowd watching in silence, and walking away to go about their business in silence, no boos, but no applause.

Also, I don't think the message that bad. I don't object that people think of scouts, first and foremost, by the good works we have done. Finally, just because our prez was a scout in Indonesia doesn't make him less in the eyes of scouting.

Forgive me, Scott...what did I miss? Our president wished the scouts well; congratulated them for their service and wished them a happy anniversary. I was a Scout, and I was ashamed and appalled by the level of disrespect that group showed to our president. I disagree with just about every policy and stance Presient Obama has implemented, but he is our president, the speech was benign; and apparently scouting, somewhere along the road, has taken a bad turn.

This is meant as a joke and nothing more. I have nothing against the Scouts Organization. I just read the list and when reading the list under "A Scout Is" all I could think of was my parents cat and dog because they fit this description perfectly.

One of the nice things about YouTube videos is you can watch and listen over and over again. Up above is a list of the Scout Pledge. With that in hand, listen to the Scout qualities Pres. Obama praises. To these ears, Obama sees certain Scout qualities as perfect for future community organizers.

I alos disagree with the prez on just about everything, but I also think that the scouts should have been if not Friendly at least Courteous, Kind, Cheerful, and Reverent (respectful). The boos went too far.

When I watched the Boy Scout youtube they made it clear they were not booing the message or the One, but were booing because he was to busy trying to salvage his poll numbers to show up.

I agreed with you until recently. Now, when a politician has his foot on the back of my head, grinding my face into the slops - I'm not going to cheer him on. I'm going to do all I can to get them bounced from office, to see they're never elected to anything again.

I sincerely doubt that the President could string together more than two or three words before the damning criticism would begin. Maybe just one would do it.

I don't think there would much criticism if the One were to say I Quit, or I was wrong about wasting so much of your hard earned money, or because I beleive in man made global warming I am not going to flying around the country trying to sell my progressive agenda. So AJ there are things he could say.

Firestorm of cheers maybe. If he ever said I quit I think the howls would be from the left. And of course the left never criticised Bush when he was in office. It is what we do, heck the One is still trying to get you to believe that it really wasn't he and Biden in congress voting for all those budgets and mess they inherited/created.

Editor - Individualism is NOT a scouting tribute, in fact much of Scouting relies on teaching the Patrol methods - groups of boys developing skills together, cooking and camping together and fostering relationships that last long after they become adults. The ultimate expression of that patrol methodology is seeing boys, adult leaders, friends and family come together to participate in an Eagle Scout candidate service project. Lastly, congratulations to Kevin McArthur of lewiston - Maine's newest eagle scout as of 2 days ago!

One of the young men(age 21) who went came home Saturday and I spoke with him this weekend - his impression was the booing was most likely due to some adults who over the past 2 weeks had been festering their disgust for the President blowing them off for toher commitments and their public dissatisfaction was not lost on impressionable young Scouts. Those adult leaders should have kept their thoughts to themselves and not disrespect THE PRESIDENT publicly in that forum. As a leader we too should abide by the 12 Points of the Scout Law and the Scout oath...."On My Honor"...several Presidents have not attended including Ronald Reagan.

It's true, "Bad weather forced the cancellation of President Bush's trip Wednesday to the Boy Scouts' national jamboree..The White House said Bush would instead travel to the gathering on Sunday evening, at the request of the organizers. At the last jamboree four years ago, Bush's trip was also canceled because of bad weather"
