Odd...I coulda sworn that the defense squad woulda been here to stick up for Paul LePage...for speaking his mind...about wanting to do bodily harm to the reporter he yelled at last week...

What gives...?

Another case where Emily Post

Another case where Emily Post School of Etiquette would have come in handy.

I would have instructed him to say, "although I would like to knock that reporter into next week, I realize he is being paid to create news and probably not well so I will pray for him instead."

And again...he has spoken like most of the real men that I know.

The funniest thing is that AJ

The funniest thing is that AJ and Paul probably both know it was a joke. LePage was chuckling. (That's a good sign someone is joking or teasing).AJ has a pretty good sense of humor, if you know him. It even sounds like Rooks was joking about it too. A view of the tape (it was being recorded) would confirm this, I suspect.
But the larger point, let's remember, is that the BDN and MPBN are in the tank for Mitchell and/or Cutler. No surprise here.

I must admit I felt like punching Bill Nemitz after reding 1 of his nasty columns. Don't mean I ever would have. I did end up praying for forgiveness and praying for Paul & his family and Mr nemitz as well.

I wouldn't give a Nemitz

I wouldn't give a Nemitz column 5 minutes of my time.

And as far as A J goes, I recall a Facebook comment by our latest turncoat, Mark Ellis, in reference to AJ's badgering exercise: "Nice job, A J."

Again, I'm going to ask that we define our terms here.

By "our," you mean who?

Perhaps this from CNN's Bill Schneider helps...

"The tea party is a political fundamentalist movement. Like religious fundamentalists, its members do not tolerate waverers . . . They drive out heretics . . . They punish unbelievers . . .

I, for the record, do not believe Schneider is even remotely able to understand what is happening here, but this does seem to sum up some of the LePageism we are experiencing.

I've known AJ for many years.

I've known AJ for many years. He is a fair and even-handed journalist. He has to ask tough questions from time to time. That's his job. Apparently Paul doesn't like tough questions or can't handle them. Publicly threatening to punch someone (in jest or not) is hardly an appropriate comment from a candidate for any office let alone a governorship. For someone from the streets Paul sure has a thin skin. I guess it isn't like bullying those Marden's employees around.

“Joke or not, the threat of violence is not acceptable, and I think candidates for governor should really serve as a role model,” said Arden Manning, manager of the Maine Democratic Party’s 2010 campaign effort.

Does Mr. Manning speak with a hint of a lisp?

Editor's Note: The posting of this video by MPBN troubles me. I've had many off-the-record conversations with MPBN reporters over the years. Some of those conversations happened just prior to going on air. I have never made public the contents of any of those conversations. Neither, as far as I know, have any of the MPBN reporters. Does MPBN's posting of this off-air video mean such courtesies are gone? Does that mean anything said by and to MPBN reporters off-air is fair game for public posting? Yes, Paul LePage needs to be wiser about what he says in these situations. However, I think reporting this incident and now making the video available is pretty cheesy.

MPBN Tweet: Here is the actual video footage of Paul LePage "joking" that he'd like to punch A.J. Higgins http://fb.me/EzTDqCpg

Why did Rooks assume that

Why did Rooks assume that LePage would be OK with speaking to Higgins and Sharron? And why spring it on him when they were on set?

Lepage is a good candidate.

Lepage is a good candidate. Other political blowhards call a lie an "untruth". It is truly refreshing to hear clear, plain talk. The creationism crap is still crap, however.

Look out for that

Look out for that creationism, every body!! LOOK OUT!!!

We should be specific in our whining lol.............AJ wasn't involved in this day's LePage outrage. LOL
It was probably Rooks and Keith Shortall who took a totally INNOCUOUS joke and decided to put it out as news. (My earlier hunch was proven correct by the release of the video).
YES, it was bad on the Maine media to jump on MPBN's lead. But when one outlet decides something is really newsworthy, that sets the precedent. (As I told the BDN news editor today, if it was me who saw that MPBN piece come across the news wire, I would have said, "huh!?? This is just a dumb story. We have ALOT to cover and we're not going to waste space or time on this". I think he kind of agreed with me, but hey he has to answer to his leftist bosses too).
AJ was not offended at all by LePage's joke. He was not involved at all. Again...........this was likely Rooks and the MPBN news director who decided to engage in classic "GOTCHA" journalism. Pathetic.
(AJ actually did a pretty good piece tonight at 5:30:
http://www.mpbn.net/News/MaineNewsArchive/tabid/181/ctl/ViewItem/mid/347...
Check out his concluding paragraph:
"But LePage says his mandate for education is very simple. Unlike Mitchell, who he says thinks teachers are the most important people in the school system, his administration will make students the most important people in the system." I'm sure he didn't have to put that in. The LePage news conference where he yelled stuff at LePage over and over again was not his finest moment. But he's far from the worst offender at MPBN.

(On a philosophical note, I think this has to do with what Rush calls the "feminization" of the news media. It has TOTALLY been taken over by the female viewpoint. Example: If my male buddy has a great big zit on his face, I am going to ridicule him like heck about it. This is a sign of affection and jocularity, designed to build upon the bond we have and to HELP him to not take it too seriously. If a female sees the same thing on her female friend's face, she will avoid even mentioning it like the plague, out of affection and concern. Just different approaches. I bet Rooks got to thinking about what LePage said and decided, "HE shouldn't say things like that!! That's BAD! Let's package this". Whereas AJ himself probably would have said, "I can run faster than you, Paul, so good luck trying!" And Lepage would have said "alright, alright, then let me buy you a beer instead"...
Make any sense?

Jim: Your view makes perfect

Jim: Your view makes perfect sense. Especially because A.J. Higgins is perhaps one of the most reasonable people in Statehouse press row. I remember back in my reporting days in the early-70's, when a politician was furious at something I had written and uttered in front of a fellow politician on a street corner when we passed, "In this day of concern for recycling, I suggest Mr. Berardelli be beaten to a pulp and recycled for newsprint." I broke out laughing, pulled out my notebook and replied, "Great line! You've finally said something quotable for the first time in your political career." We both laughed, went to a bar and I never printed it nor did he repeat it in a public venue.

Michelle, with all due

Michelle, with all due respect, I would suggest that I write my thoughts and you write yours. I'm not into parsing.

Distributist, I support Paul LePage for governor. I've supported a candidate for governor for the better part of 11 election cycles to date. I tend to work hard for people I support. I raise money for them. I talk them up. I help them in about every way I can. Now, that is called being a member of a "cult." That is just ignorant and disrespectful of the political process. Perhaps you can detail why you see being a supporter of a candidate is deserving of being labeled a member of a cult?

Paul behaved himself admirably.
