Pingree urges feds to block LePage cuts to Medicaid

By Steve Mistler smistler@pressherald.com
Staff Writer

.... Pingree....urging ...U.S. (DHHS)...to make sure Maine cannot move forward with Medicaid cuts....
...snip

... Legislature... passed several cuts ... would eliminate coverage ...seniors and people with disabilities in ...Medicare Savings Program, 19- and 20-year olds ...parents with incomes between 100% and 133% of ......Poverty Level.

... cuts previously required ... Maintenance of Effort waiver... Supreme Court ruling ...made it unclear if...waivers... still necessary.

.... DHHS ... has not advised states on whether the waivers are still needed.

Pingree's letter urged Sebelius to say that they are.

1) Why doesn't Pingree care about repairing Maine's economy, getting our debts paid down, and balancing the budget? Instead of partisan attacks on the Governor, she should be working with him, and be supportive of his efforts to get Maine's spending under control.

2) Why does the headline say "LePage cuts"? As stated in the article, the Legislature passed the cuts. More partisan bias?

Is this more grandstanding from Pingree? After all, it's "election season," and she knows her green campaigning on the Congressional Cafeteria Cutlery isn't going to cut it with many disillusioned Maine voters. Following her outing as Sussman's jet buddy, and her subsequent marriage to the hedge-fund billionaire, she's lost her "I'm just a poor person struggling to get by" creds, and she's worried.

I have to wonder from which home the letter to Sebelius was issued. Virgin Islands? DC? Portland? North Haven? It must be hard, keeping track of one's favorite toothbrush and the twin-sets when one has so many habitats.

Pingree has zero credibility , a woman who lives the lifestyle she claims to be fighting against.

And she will be reelected with at least 60 percent of the vote.

Everybody who is able to donate something to the Pingree opponent they desire for District 1, please do so, very soon. Maine Senator Jon Courtney deserves and needs our help.

Kevin Raye is running against Michaud in District 2. These campaigns are somewhat lower-key in media coverage, between the prominence of the POTUS race and Snowe's seat, but they're vital to our future.

I would be delighted to see Pingree involuntarily retired to one of her mansions in the Virgin Islands.

Thank you.

Dear Representative Pingree:

I was disappointed to see your recent letter to Secretary Sebelius. It appears that you have become part of the jet-setting Washington culture that keeps people dependent on government handouts. Your efforts should instead be focused on the Maine people, helping my administration create the well-paying careers that will let Mainers earn their own way and create prosperity for themselves.

Great letter from the Governor to Pingree!

" I didn't intend to get into a personal argument w/ gov.", Well of course that is pure BS. If she didn't she would have named the legislature!
Somehow see has forgotten that she represents a district , a good number probably more than 27000 who are loosing everyday to pay for the benefits presently given and abused!
Her responsibility is to help Maine get back to where we can do more, not prevent it,and that is what she is doing.

Rather than read the forum, I actually clicked on the link and read the governor's letter.

I could not be more proud on my governor !

Rather than for me to rant here and expect you to read my remarks, you should read the governor's letter too.

Well said, Calvin. Great letter (the one to Sebelius was great, too).

If only the Governor was capable of being so on-point and measured when speaking...

BTW - in response to a private message ---> AMG is a "reader forum," because the information is primarily supposed to come from the READERS of the forum - not just the unpaid editors/moderators. If AMG members wish to see all the candidates for the District 1 and 2 races outlined, or any of the other Maine campaigns, they are always free to contribute that information, whenever they wish.

Thank you.

I loved statement in PPH today calling Rep. P. a "leader".
What does she lead?
Gov. leads state.
Speaker of house leads House.
CEO of a company leads company.

She is a representative of a district ,not a leader of anything. A point not remembered / known by too many!

Leader? The only thing I have seen her lead was her husband off the private jet.

Or, the unsuccessful charge to reinstate the "green" cornstarch soup bowls at the Congressional Cafeterias -- the ones that melted on the staffer's laps.

From over the AMG Transom:

So, Chellie Pingree has asked for an extension for filing her financial disclosure as a member of Congress. It was due on May 15, but she has asked for an extension into August. Why would a sitting Congresswoman, with full time staff, whose husband has financial staff all around, need two extra months to file? She has never had trouble meeting the deadline before this year.

Why hasn't Pingree filed her financial disclosure?

A lot of .25% file for extensions. And do not forget she is of the ruling class

The Party of Delusion continues to insist Maine's dangerously obese Medicare program, Mainecare, was just fine. Problem? What problem?

Maine Democrats write to HHS Secretary Sebelius about LePage's Medicaid plans
By John Richardsonjrichardson@mainetoday.com
State House Bureau

AUGUSTA -- Top Democratic state lawmakers sent a letter to the Obama administration Wednesday opposing...LePage's plan to cut Medicaid benefits for about 27,000 Mainers.

Sen. Dawn Hill...and Rep. Peggy Rotundo wrote...disputing LePage's arguments...the cuts are needed because of a state budget crisis.

...Hill/Rotundo...argue...the budget shortfall was a manufactured crisis, saying the Republican-led Legislature approved tax cuts that take effect...next year...eventually reduce revenues by $700 million a year.

The Feds grant half of the Medicaid waivers sought by Gov. LePage. So much for the naysayers, who said it would never happen.

Feds allow limited cuts to Medicaid, not to level sought by LePage

By Matthew Stone, BDN Staff

AUGUSTA, Maine — (Feds)...will allow Maine to make limited cuts to... Medicaid program, but not to the extent Gov. Paul LePage ’s administration...sought .....

....Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services....notified state officials.... they can cut some low-income parents and caretakers .... and scale back Medicaid access for some residents who also qualify for Medicare benefits.

... didn’t allow the LePage administration to cut .... as deeply as state officials...sought.

Cue the howling from the MPA, and the other vested interests.

The Feds allowed two of the four waivers sought by the LePage administration.
