Poll: Snowe Could Lose 2012 GOP Primary In Landslide To Conservative Challenger
Eric Kleefeld | November 10, 2009, 11:07AM
A new survey of Maine from Public Policy Polling (D) has some dire news for Sen. Olympia Snowe, with the moderate Republican potentially losing her 2012 Republican primary against a generic conservative challenger -- and by a landslide, no less.
The numbers: Conservative challenger 59%, Snowe 31%, with a ±4.8% margin of error.
Democrats approve of her by 60%-29%, Republicans disapprove by 40%-46%, and independents approve by 51%-33%.

Colonel David Hunt
The Obama voter? Let's see if she keeps her word on opposing Card Check.
He could run with the slogan "A Colonel of Truth." Though given his confessions -- among them the fact that he voted for Obama and defends that decision -- I don't know that he's a conservative...
Hunt is a liberal.
Hypothetical unnamed candidates often do better in polls than actual real life human beings.

While I'm sure you defend his right to do so, it must stick in your craw just a tad that The President of the Empire of Hate voted no on 1... at least I think I heard him admit as much.
No generic candidate ever beat a living Homo sapiens.
Well, if not Col. Hunt then it is up to Dan Billings.
skf
Though, like most Republicans not named Mills, I am to the right of Senator Snowe, I do not think that makes me a conservative.
Hunt retracted his vote for Yomama the other day on the air. But in all respects he an obnoxious bigmouth , and one of those wanna be tough guys that needs his ass kicked.
lol...Snowalker, I like your style. What about Charlie Webster?
Even if Snowe lost the primary she would run as an independent and win .... see Joe Liberman..... unfortunate but true.
In Maine, one can't run as an Independent after losing the primary. If you want to run as an independent, you have to leave the party by March and turn in nomination papers before the primary.
If she lost the primary, the only way for her to be on the ballot would be for the Democrat or Green nominee to drop out of the race and for her to be nominated as the replacement candidate by that party. In 2002, Sen. Mike McAlevey lost the GOP primary to Richard Nass. He became a Democrat and was nominated by the Democrats as their replacement nominee. He then lost to Nass a second time.
Not, if she doesn't run, prior speculation forgotten here?
I doubt she'll run.
Josh Tardy or Carol Weston ought to challenge her
Snowe has a million bucks in her campaign account and has raised $135,000 or so this year.
I hate to be the curmudgeon, but Maine will not ever see a 'conservative' US Senator. Period. Too far gone.
Not a chance. Nil. None. Nada. Nine. Nyet!. Zilch. Zero. Zippo.
Shall we rearrange the furniture in the ballroom?

That is a dream you folks are having. Senator Snowe will never be beatd. I am one democrat that supports her for her work
Charlie webster would get my vote
Well, there you go. Unionman supports her for her "work." She's fighting for us all.
What could possibly go wrong?
Dear Punk,
It could happen in a 3 way race - think D'Amato in NY.
Charlie Summers would be the strongest possible candidate we could get, (Scontras would be the weakest statewide of GOP names mentioned above) and Summers is a Reagan Conservative, but he will not, IMO, buck Snowe.
"Summers is a Reagan Conservative"
??!?!?!!!?!?
I am with Stone, I doubt she will run, but if she did and a conservative had the cahoonies to take her on, then yes there is a good chance the conservative would beat her in the primary, but, as has already been mentioned, 1 of 2 things would happen. 1. Snowe would unenroll and win as an independent or 2. We elect the democrat in the race.
Yeah; That cracked me up too.
I nominate Ray Richardson!
Charlie Summers worked for her. The idea that he would challenge her is retarded. Jean Hay Bright mean anything to you.
Hmmm, that IS interesting :-)
If she chooses to run for reelection (and she probably will just out of spite to AMGers) she will whup any conservative challenger and will easily win reelection against and Democratic opponent. Keep dreamin' AMG bloggers.
I predict she doesn't run, anoints one of the the Summers and puts all her backing behind them. {Not sure which Summers, but I think Ruth has a better shot in the general.]

Ok, a conservative challenger....let's see, is there one over there? Nope, how about behind that door? Ideas? Please, no Charlie Summers, no Dean Scontras....someone electable? Anyone?
